GAS CHROMATOGRAPHY

• It is the separation of one particular component from the mixture of a

components using gas as a mobile phase.
or
• In technical terms, it is the process of separating component from the
mixture of components or from a crude drug using a gaseous mobile
phase.
• It is primarily based on the volatilities of components.
• It provides both quantitative and qualitative information of individual
component present in the sample

Principle of Gas – liquid and Gas – Solid Chromatography

• Gas – Liquid Chromatography:

- This Chromatography is based on Partition Chromatography because
partition is the phenomena between Liquid and Gas.
- It is the process of separation where components get separated in
two phase due to differences in their partition co-efficient.

• Gas – Solid Chromatography:

- This Chromatography is based on Adsorption chromatography
because adsorption phenomena is inherent property of solids.
- Chemicals are retained based on their Adsorption and Desorption at
the surface of support.
