Chromatography

And It’s
Applications
Chromatography

• In simple words, chromatography is a method of separation

in which the components to be separated are distributed
between two phases, one of these is called a Stationary
Phase and the other is a Mobile Phase which moves on
stationary phase in a definite direction.
• The stationary phase can be solid or a liquid and the mobile
phase can be liquid, gas or a supercritical fluid.
Classification Of Chromatography
On the basis of interaction of solute to the stationary phase
Adsorption Chromatography
Partition Chromatography
Ion Exchange Chromatography
Size Exclusion Chromatography
On the basis of chromatographic bed shape
 Two Dimensional : (i) Thin layer Chromatography
(ii) Paper Chromatography
 Three Dimensional : Column Chromatography
On the basis of physical state of mobile phase
Liquid Chromatography
Super Critical Fluid Chromatography
Gas Chromatography
Applications
• Chromatography has several significant
applications in many pharmaceutical sectors
and also in the food and chemical industries.
• The chromatography process which was
developed by the Environmental Protection
Agency can be used to analyze drinking water
and also to monitor air quality.
• It is very helpful in separating compound
mixtures.
