INTRO TO MULTI

OBJECTIVE
• To become familiar with the flight characteristics,
systems and performance of a multi-engined
aircraft in normal flight conditions
CONSIDERATIONS
MORE POWER & PERFORMANCE
Better Acceleration
Greater rate of climb
Higher airspeed
Bigger turning radius

MORE COMPLICATED SYSTEMS

Some are duplicated:
2 engines
2 alternators
Fuel system
Constant speed unit 2 suction systems
Retractable undercarriage
2 axis autopilot
CONSIDERATIONS
AIRCRAFT LOADING

Weights BEW, ZFW, MRPW, MCTOW, MLW

Always Load in
accordance with
a/c flight manual

VISUAL PERSPECTIVE
Lack of nose cowling for attitudes

SEATING POSITION
Full rudder deflection is essential
CONSIDERATIONS

ENGINE HANDLING
CSU OPERATION

• Pitch full fine on the

ground – throttle will
control RPM
• To increase power
work from right to
left
• To decrease power
work from left to
right
• Remember cowl flaps

CLIMB 25” 2500RPM

CRUISE 24” 2300RPM
DESCENT 20” 2300RPM

2 Sets of T’s and P’s to monitor

Manifold pressure decreases as
altitude increases
Monitor carb temps for icing
Smooth throttle and pitch
changes

• Take off brief

• Treat both throttles as one, and move together.
• Feet on the brakes 20” set and check RPM’s
• Release brakes and set full power
• Rotate around 71 kts, and climb at 85 knots
• No runway remaining retract gear
• After 500’ & OCA, set climb power 25” 2500 RPM

PROP SYNCHRONISATION

• Set RPM’s. Adjust sound with right prop
