• According to Washignton ethical society, ethics can be defined as elements that are
essential to human well being and proposes principle to be used as guidelines for
generating an ethical issue.
• Ethics are specific morals or values guiding a person or an organisation. However, an
individual needs to have moral principle to be able to follow and abide to the ethic code
of conduct.
• Hypothetically, if a journalist is working with a media organisation, will the journalist
report be in favour of the organisation policy, or his personal moral prinicple.Where does
his loyalty lie?
As a journalist who is a professional in his field, it is important to follow the ethic code of conduct
because journalist are:
the mirror to the society
responsible for setting agenda
the bridge between the government and the media audience
the fourth estate of the realm
accountable for shapening the opinions of the people
In essence, journalists have the power to either make or mar the society.

THE REALITY
• Unfortunaletly, the practice of jounrnalism is not done in the right way due to the following
factors:
Proprietor Influence
Underpayment of Journalist
Weak professional regulation
Loose organisational policy and control
Conflict of interest
Poor technical knowledge
CONCLUSION
• In entirety, it is important that journalist should allign themselves with the journalist code
of ethics in order to ensure a balanced flow of information.
• While the disobedience of journalist to the code of ethics may not entirely be their fault, it
is still the responsibilty of every journalist to use the power given to them to disseminate
the inofrmation in an objective manner.
