Leadership Thoughts

Everyone can be a leader because you meet

people’s needs or influence their lives in one
way or the other.
You need to deliberately take up the
responsibility. You need to build and not
break. You need to become a positive
influence.

What is Leadership Style
•“Leadership style is the manner and approach
of providing direction, implementing plans, and
motivating people.” (Ojokuku et al, 2012:203).

•“Great leaders choose their leadership styles

based on prevailing circumstances and the end
goal.” (Brian Tracy, 2017).
Let’s Check them
Out…

Lanre Amodu
Autocratic leadership
•Makes decision without input from others.
•Produces tyrants.
•Produces no other leader.
•Leads to leadership failure when it is the sole style
of a leader.
•Needed in emergency situations.
•Could be handy when dealing with unskilled
followers.
Democratic leadership
•Relies heavily on the input of others in decision
making.
•Produces democrats.
•Produces many leaders.
•Encourages team spirit among groups.
•Not suited for emergency situations.
•Very productive when dealing with knowledgeable
and skilled followers.
Laissez-faire leadership
•At the extreme of democratic leadership.
•The leader watches as followers do as they like.
•Leadership responsibilities are virtually
delegated.
•Produces irresponsibility.
•Discourages stimulations.
•Leads to uncertainty.
Transactional leadership
• focuses on supervision, organization, and
performance.
• Requires consistent evaluation.
• promotes compliance by followers through
rewards and punishments.
• effective in crisis and emergency situations.
• effective in project management.

Conclusion
• Leadership styles are available to leaders to adopt and adapt
according to the dictates of the prevalent situations.
• There are other styles such as transactional, transformational,
situational, etc.
• No leadership style is absolutely negative
• No leadership style is absolutely positive.
• There can be a simultaneous mixture of leadership styles by a
leader.
• Great leaders consciously chose their styles.
