Leadership Thoughts

Everyone can be a leader because you meet

people’s needs or influence their lives in one
way or the other.
You need to deliberately take up the
responsibility. You need to build and not
break. You need to become a positive
influence.

Autocratic leadership
•Makes decision without input from others.
•Needed in emergency situations.
•Could be handy when dealing with unskilled
followers.
•Useful when tasks are defined
•May produce tyrants.
•May produce no other leader.
•May lead to leadership failure when it is the sole
style of a leader.
Democratic leadership
•Relies heavily on the input of others in
decision making.
•Very productive when dealing with
knowledgeable and skilled followers.
•Produces many leaders.
•Encourages team spirit among groups.
•Not suited for emergency situations.
•Leads to slow decision making
Laissez-faire leadership
•At the extreme of democratic leadership.
•All leadership responsibilities are virtually
delegated.
•The leader watches as followers do as they
like.
•Produces irresponsibility.
•Leads to uncertainty.
Transactional leadership
• focuses on supervision, organization, and
performance.
• Requires consistent evaluation.
• promotes compliance by followers through
rewards and punishments.
• effective in crisis and emergency situations.
• effective in project management.

Conclusion

according to the dictates of the prevalent situations.
• There are other styles such as transactional, transformational,
situational, etc.
• No leadership style is absolutely negative
• No leadership style is absolutely positive.
• There can be a simultaneous mixture of leadership styles by a
leader.
• Great leaders consciously chose their styles.
