Lesser toxic alternatives
• Knowledge centers like KAU, TNAU have previously come up with alternatives for banned
pesticide and state wise they are geared up with lesser toxic alternatives (chemical
pesticides and Integrated Pest Management IPM) for 27 pesticides that are in BAN proposal.
• We can get advise on substitution for ‘RED LIST’ that we have derived and add their
recommendation to the list if any.
• They also have their records of ‘success stories’ of farmers who were enabled for transition
from
High toxic /BANNED Chemical pesticide Lesser toxic chemical pesticide
Chemical pesticide  Bio pesticide / Integrated Pest Management
• The Rotterdam Convention facilitates information exchange among Parties regarding
regulatory and management practices that promote the safer use of pesticides and the
development and use of safer alternatives and techniques to control pests and regulate
plant growth. We can get international projects like one mentioned below as inspiration.
