Part 1: Personal Question

Main Question

•Are you easily persuaded to buy things after seeing or

hearing an ad?
Sample Answer

• I’m afraid I am easily persuaded by advertisements,

especially because there are so many all around us. There
are numerous TV commercials when we watch our favorite
programs, and when we are online, there are lots of ads on
the sides of websites, and even pop-up ads. Because I am
constantly bombarded with these advertisements in
everyday life, I find them hard to resist.
Follow-up Question 1

• Do you think advertising is an art?

Sample Answer

• I think that advertising is an art form given that a lot of

thought is put into an advertising campaign before
executing it. In a way, it’s like a painting or sculpture
that an artist spends time perfecting, before showing it
to the world. There have been many memorable TV
commercials that are almost like movies in their
quality. I respect those in the advertising industry for
their creativity that they use to promote a product.
Follow-up Question 2

• Do you agree with an advertising ban on cigarettes?

Sample Answer

• I am a smoker myself, but I agree that dangerous products

such as tobacco should not be advertised. We do not want
non-smokers to be hooked on this bad habit because it really
is very difficult to quit. While we cannot impose a total ban
on tobacco products, we can at least limit its exposure in
media.
Part 2: Picture Description
Main Question
Describe the picture.
Sample Answer

•There are three people who are having a meeting in an office.

They are looking at two monitors. The woman is holding the
mouse, while one of the men is describing something on the
screens, using his hand to draw the others’ attention. The man
in the middle looks very serious, with his hands clasped on the
desk. They may be having this meeting at sunset, due to the
orange glow of the sunlight coming from the glass windows.
Follow-up Question 1

• How often do you attend meetings at work?

Sample Answer

• At work, there are many regular meetings that I need to

attend. My department has a weekly meeting done on
Monday mornings, and we do this to plan for the week
ahead. Every month, I have a meeting with my boss to
report the progress of our department. Our company
CEO also calls a meeting every few months. Sometimes,
there are unscheduled meetings as well, which usually
happens if there is a big problem at work.
Follow-up Question 2

•What are the most common problems experienced in a

meeting?
Sample Answer

• I think the most common problem experienced in a meeting

is the difficulty in reaching an agreement. Important
decisions must be made, but sometimes people have
opposing opinions. This leads to the second problem, which
is conflict. Sometimes people can get carried away with their
emotions, and may use harsh words. Another problem we
usually experience at work is regarding the meeting
schedule. It is quite hard to find a common available time for
all members of our department.
