Effect of Al addition to Pb-Ca alloy
Reasons for rejection of the casting
•The following are the criteria by which the cast grids can be accepted for further
processing or rejected.
•Grids requiring excessive trimming should be rejected.
•Grids which are bent, those with the frames broken and those which are warped
should also be rejected.
•Flash protruding into the pellet area in more than 5 adjacent or ten scattered pellet
areas is a cause for rejection.
•Flashes protruding into the pellet area more than 2 mm from the edge of the
horizontal
wires or frame in more than 5 adjacent or ten scattered pellet areas are causes for
rejection.
•A grid having more than 3 broken or unformed vertical or horizontal ribs (in the same
row or any other row) should be rejected.
•A grid having more than 3 half-formed (cross-section) vertical ribs should be rejected.
•A grid having two consecutive horizontal ribs missing should be rejected.
•A grid having 3 missing horizontal ribs should be rejected.
•The grid frame with less than ¾ of its normal width should not be taken for further
processing.
•Lugs not fully formed or with holes below the burning height should be causes for
rejection.
