INTRODUCTION

• is an article published in International Journal of Reviews in Computing, 2009.

This article was written by G.Satyanarayana Reddy, Rallabandi Srinivasu,
Srikanth Reddy Rikkula,Vuda Sreenivasa Rao.
• This paper gives an overview of the knowledge on MIS and its role in
organizational activities and decision making of managers.
• Our concern is to develop a systematic and analytical discussion based around
the degree to which this study exemplifies the characteristics of academic article.
SUMMARY

• The main purpose of the study was to indicate the impact of MIS on facilitating the
decision making of organizations by providing accurate and timely information for
managers.
• The paper tried to accomplish particularly the study aimed to see the trend and
relationship between MIS, decision-making process and the organizations planning,
control, and operational Functions as well as to recommend the Policy makers and
decision makers to develop the better MIS programs in order to enhance sustainable
competitive advantages.
SUMMARY…………….
• The study also implies that the success of decision making is highly dependent
on information provided by MIS. As it stressed MIS is very important in
decision making as it provides information that is needed for better decision
making of the organization regarding overall activities.
• MIS is the study of providing information to people who make choices about
the disposition of valuable resources in a timely, accurate, and complete
manner at a minimum of cognitive and economic cost for acquisition,
processing, storage, and retrieval. “(G.Satyanarayana.R.et.al, 2009, p. 2).
• “The term “management information system”(MIS) is synonymous with
computer based systems. “(G.Satyanarayana.R.et.al, 2009, p. 2).
ANALYSIS
• The paper critically analyzed and demonstrated the issue about MIS , organization functions
and decision making in reviewing different literature and empirical studies. The paper also
substantiate the points satisfactorily with information, logic and broaden concepts.
• There is difficult to see other arguments or not evident that would oppose the authors
view on MIS roles in decision making and organizational activities. For example:
• The MIS is defined as a system which provides information support for decision making in
the organization (Barton & Parolin, 2005).
• The MIS is defined as an integrated system of man and machine for providing the information
to support the operations, the management and the decision making function in the
organization (Bendoly, 2008).
ANALYSIS…………….
• Management Information Systems is a system that converts data into information, communicated
in an appropriate form to managers at levels of an organization. The information can contribute to
effective decision making or planning to be carried out (Patterson, 2005).
• The interpretive case study or an opinion type of article writing methods are applied by
presenting narratively following the procedure.
• The authors does indeed draw on some relevant literature to contextualize their study,
although no enough, clear description, synthesis, or analysis of that literature is evident.
• For example, in the introduction to the article, the authors does not refers to any
particular reference that is helpful in providing some background
ANALYSIS…………
• The author did not mention any is assumptions(s) that can be considered and
underlying to conduct this study like the effect and relationship of other MIS variables,
supporting functions, government policy and strategy, employee capacity and etc.
• The study is very interestingly a good input to broadening the view of subject to the
private and public administration structures by using clear language in the paper and a
good approach of expressions .
• We have got more concern on the issue objectively more than we have before that
initiates us in order to know better on the concepts in the course of our academic study
and future career.
CONCLUSION
• “Information does not serve as an alternative for good management but conversely
management cannot be good without adequate information.”
• The study purposes are indeed answered as a result of the study. It is shown that, at
least from the perspective of the authors .
• Generally speaking, we found that this particular study was a satisfactory example of
what we understand to be acceptable for an opinion article study.
• As we are Coming from a public organizations, operational activities of the sectors and
decision making systems of managers would be revised consistently by considering the
real and deep needs of MIS.
CONCLUSION…………….
• This study certainly raises some very red flags regarding the possible trends
which may find their way into our Ethiopian public administration system.
• To sum up, we are agreed on the justification and the author’s logical
implications of the impacts of MIS on manager’s decision makings as well as the
above conclusion of the authors.
“ Information does not serve as an alternative for good
management but conversely management cannot be good without
adequate information.”
