What is media, information, and technology?


How do they differ from each other?
MEDIA

Media comes from the Latin word “medius”


which means middle.
MEDIA

The tools people use to facilitate the transfer of


communication between a sender and a receiver.
Media refers to a vehicle or means of communication
from the source to the target public.
INFORMATION

Data, knowledge derived from study, experience


or instruction or symbol;

Knowledge of specific events or situations.


LITERACY

Literacy has traditionally been thought of as reading and writing.

Literacy is the ability, confidence and willingness to engage with


language to acquire, construct and communicate meaning in all
aspects of daily living (Alberta Education).
Definition of Terms

How do media literacy, information literacy, and


technology literacy differ from each other?
Media Literacy
The ability to read, analyze, evaluate, and produce communication in a
variety of media forms.

Information Literacy
The ability to recognize when information is needed and to locate,
evaluate, effectively use, and communicate information in its
various formats.

Technology Literacy
The ability to use digital technology, communication tools, or
networks to locate, evaluate, use, and create information.
