BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

1. Researcher wants to improve vocabulary mastery at seventh grade in SMP


Muhammadiyah Ngemplak .

2. Vocabulary mastery at seventh grade in SMP Muhammadiyah Ngemplak is


still low ( observation based on magang terapan and interview with English
teacher in SMP Muhammadiyah Ngemplak ).

3. Seventh grade students in SMP Muhammadiyah Ngemplak is still confused


how to know the meaning of vocabulary, how to use vocabulary, and how to
pronounce it.

4. Researcher use domino card game because no one researcher before that
using domino card game to improve vocabulary mastery at SMP
Muhammadiyah Ngemplak.

Methodology

A. Type of Research
The type of this research is using action research method. Because, the goal of this
research is to increase or improve the knowledge of students vocabulary mastery
through domino card games as learning media among seventh grade in SMP
Muhammadiyah Ngemplak.
B. Research Setting
The research will be done in SMP Muhammadiyah Ngemplak which located in
Banjarharjo, RT/RW 5/21, Dsn. Banjarharjo, Ds./Kel Bimo Martani, Kec. Ngemplak,
Kab. Sleman, Prov. D.I. Yogyakarta
C. Subject of Research
The subject of this research are grade VII students of SMP Muhammadiyah Ngemplak
whisch is consist of 33 students in the class of 2018/2019 academic year.
D. Research Procedure
 Pre-cycle
This stage contains classroom observation activities, instrument test activities, and pre-
test activities carried out in the sample class namely class seven A
 First- cycle and second cycle
a. Planning ( media, questions/test, lesson plan
b. Acting ( application of domino card media )
c. Observing ( control teaching and learning activities )
d. Reflecting ( evaluation )

The writer used the criteria of assessment, thus are the content of students
understanding about the quality of animals that conclude the ability to spell the animals’
quality and write down it correctly and their ability to pronounce the quality of animals.
