RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This chapter contains the research design population and sampling, sampling procedure,
research instrument, data gathering technique and data processing. The statistical treatment
that will be engaged and developed are involved and distinctly described.
Research Design
This study used a descriptive type of research. This method is the most widely used research design as
indicated by theses, dissertations, and research reports of research institutions. In education research, the
most commonly descriptive methodology is the survey, as when researchers summarize the characteristics
(abilities, preferences, behaviors, and so on) of individuals or groups or physical environment of schools
(Veroy, 2013).
This process was used in this study in order to the Sports Performances and Academic Achievement
among Southern Tagalog Regional Association of State Colleges and Universities (STRASUC) Athletes of
Laguna State Polytechnic University, Year 2019-2020.
Respondents of the Study
The target population for this study was the Athletes Southern Tagalog Regional Association of
State Colleges and Universities (STRASUC) of Laguna State Polytechnic University, Year 2019-
2020. That consist of 289 of athletes who are actively participating in the different sports event.
Research Instrument
The foremost instrument used to meet data was a checklist questionnaire. This was used to gather data wilder than any other
method. The questionnaire is a list of planned, written questions related to a particular topic, with space provided indicating the
response to each question, intended for submission to a number of persons to reply. It is commonly used in normative survey
studies and in the measurement of attitudes and opinions (Norona, 2014).
The research tool used in this study was a checklist questionnaire accompanied and managed to the teacher respondents of STRASUC Athletes
of LSPU.
The questionnaire-checklist was divided into two parts: Part I of the questionnaire dealt with STRASUC Athletes Profile in terms of Age,
Sex, Number of years active in sports, Sports Involvement: Highest Level reached during the competition, Number Medal received during the
competition, Curricular Involvement, Non-Curricular Involvement Aspect. Part II of the –questionnaire comprised Students Athletes Self-
Reliance, Academic Performance, Academic Award. The questionnaire, has five-point rating scale indicated below was used to determine the
study.
The questionnaire, with five-point rating scale indicated below was used in measuring the Students Athletes Self- Reliance, Academic
Performance, and Academic Award.

Statistical Treatment of Data
Statistical treatment was used to analyze and interpret the data given by the respondents.
After the questionnaire was administered to respondents, all the data were gathered,
analyzed, tabulated and interpreted.
To determine the Sports Performances and Academic Achievement among Southern
Tagalog Regional Association of State Colleges and Universities (STRASUC) Athletes of
Laguna State Polytechnic University, Year 2019-2020, the researcher used frequency
distribution and the percentage presented as pie graph.
In determining the level of academic achievement and sport performance of the
STRASUC Athletes the researcher used mean and the standard deviation. To determine the
significant relationship of academic achievements and sports performances among
STRACUS Athletes of Laguna State Polytechnic University.
Also, to determine the significant effect of STRASUC Athletes Profile on the Aspects of
Academic Achievement and Sports Performance researcher uses Statistical Treatment.
