FUNCTION OF THE ROOT

• The function of the roots of plants is to absorb water and dissolved nutrients such as
i. nitrates.
ii. Phosphates
iii. Pottasium ions.
• From the soil.
FUNCTION OF THE ROOT

• Since the function of the roots is to absorb water and other dissolved
nutrients from the soil, the root system of the plant is branched out
widely in order to ensure a large surface.

• Roots can, in fact, branch out wider than the part of the plant you see
above the soil.
A DICOTYLEDONOUS

• A dicotyledonous plant has tap root or main root, lateral roots and root
hairs.

• The roots anchor the plant firmly in the soil and allow water and
dissolved nutrients to enter the plant.

• Roots can also store water and starch.
