STRUCTURE “DEAL WITH” AND “TO BE CONCERNED WITH”

Deal with
DEAL WITH + SOMETHING/SOMEBODY

Deal with is used to Deal with is used to behave, Deal with can be
discuss something, to talk communicate understood in the sense of
about something For example: deal, solve, handle
For example: I hate dealing with large For example:
The following articles impersonal companies Mechanical engineering
deal with the subject on a deal with machines
theoretical level  Mechanical engineers deal
with machines
To be concerned with

TO BE CONCERDED WITH + SOMETHING

“Be concerned with" means to like In addition, "be concerned with" also
something, to be interested in something means related to something.
because of a hobby For example:
For example: Mechanical engineering is concerned
Mechanical engineers are concerned with with machines
machines
Machines are the concern of mechanical
engineers
Match each item in column A with an appropriate item from column B and
join the two parts to form a sentence

Civil engineering is concerned with roads and bridges
Electronic engineering is concerned with developing communications and equipment
Power stations deals with electricity generating
Electricity installation deals with cables and switchgear
Ships is concerned with marine

PART 3
JOB IN ENGINEERING
Some one job in engineering:
• Design engineers
• Installation engineers
Professional
Engineers engineers
• Production engineers

• Test/Laboratory technicians
• Installation and sevice technicians
• Production planning and control technicians
The technician • Inspecttion technicians
• Debug technicians

• Tollmakers
• Fitters
• Maintenance fitters
Craftsmen and woman • Welders
• electricians
PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERS
Design enginers: They create new products and extend the life
of old product by updating them.

Installation engineers: They work on the customer’s premises

to install equipment produced by they company.

Production engineers: They ensure that the production process

is efficient, that materials are handled safely and correctly, and
that faults which occur in production are corrected. The design
and development departments consult with them to ensure that
any innovations proposed are practicable and cost-effective.
The technicians
• Test/Laboratory technicians: They test samples of the materials and of the product to
ensure quality is maintained.
• Installation and service technicians: They ensure that equipment sold by the company is
installed correctly and carry out preventative maintenance and essential repairs.
• Production planning and control technicians: They produce the manufacturing instructions
and organize the work of production so that it can be done as quickly, cheaply, and
efficiently as possible.
• Inspection technicians: They check and ensure that incoming and outgoing components
and products meet specifications.
• Debug technicians: They fault find, repair, and test equipment and products down to
component level
Craftsmen and woman
• Toolmakers: They make dies and moulding tools which are used to
punch and form metal components and produce plastic components
such as car bumpers.
• Fitters: They assemble components into larger products.
• Maintenance fitters: They repair machinery.
• Welders: They do specialized joining, fabricating, and repair work
• Electricians: They wire and install electrical equipment.
Task 4: Who would be employed to:
1. test completed motors from a production line?
Inspection technicians
2. find out why a new electronics assembly does not work?
Debug technicians
3. produce a mould for a car body part?
Toolmakers
3. see that the correct test equipment is available on a production line?
Inspection technicians
4. find a cheaper way of manufacturing a crankshaft?
Design enginers
5. repair heating systems installed by their company?
Installation and service technicians
6. see that a new product is safe to use?
Production engineers
7. commission turbine in a power station?
