engagements
Overview
Key highlights
► TAS practice has historically relied on Spotfire and Tableau as the primary visualization tools, and used EY Synapse and
other purpose built solutions such as Digital Direct to expose bespoke visualizations to clients on fast paced
engagements.
► In 2019, the practice made a strategic decision to move to Power BI as the preferred visualization tool. Having an easy
and intuitive way for non-technical engagement teams to host dashboards in a matter of 1-2 days from receiving data
was critical to drive the change management and adoption process.
Solution
Automated and low cost
Power BI as a Service was proposed as a viable alternative:
► A user friendly provisioning process that limits user inputs to only the necessary information and is largely
automated, enabling provisioning in 24-48 hours of all the necessary components, including Power BI embedded
capacity and an EY-branded web application that is accessible to engagement teams and clients in a secure way, that
pulls the appropriate dashboards directly from workspaces managed by engagement teams, enabling them to manage
presented content without service desk involvement
► Projects can provision environments in one of 2 regional hubs in order to save on infrastructure costs and meet local
data protection and performance metrics. More regional hubs can be added based on future demand.
► Azure infrastructure can be scaled upon demand as demand grows
Automated reporting
Solution
Power BI as a Service was proposed as a viable alternative:
► Data gathered automatically
► Transformation done using ETL with Azure Data Factory
► Embedded dashboard accessible to end-users and clients in a secure way using the front-end webapp
Value delivered
► Removed manual steps involved in ETL
► Eliminated the effort required to build the dashboard from end-to-end
► Probability of error was considerably reduced
Better accuracy
US Tax RPA as a Service reporting dashboard
Overview
Key highlights
► The reporting for the RPAaaS environment was being done using Excel, which involved a great deal of
manual intervention
► The data was manually downloaded and then shared with a team that would shape it into the right format
and build a dashboard
► The data required was from different databases and from On-Prem and Azure and hence time required to
get this data was large
► As the data came from different on-prem and Azure databases, the process was time-consuming
Automated reporting
Solution
Power BI as a Service provided more agility and flexibility:
► Data gathered automatically
► Transformation done using ETL with Azure Data Factory
► Embedded dashboard accessible to end-users and leadership in a secure way using the front-end
webapp Simple and flexible
Value delivered
► Removed manual steps involved in ETL
► Eliminated the effort required to build the dashboard from end-to-end
► Probability of error was considerably reduced
