PON - Port master Plan 2040- Five Main Themes
 Port Capacity
• Channel capacity : 4,700 vessel movements in 2017 10,000 in future predicted by
Port Traffic Simulation model.
• As the number and size of vessels increases, terminal berthing, channel widening,
navigation aid upgrades and navigation resources will need to be development.
 Transport Connectivity
• PON has excellent access and connectivity to national highway and rail networks.
• To improve the efficiency of freight task, need to utilize and optimized the transport
networks to their full capacity.
 Growing Trade
• Coal export - 52Mtpa in 2017 to 211Mtpa in 2040
• Fuel import - 2,680 ML in 2017 to 4,100 ML in 2040
• Grains export - 1 Mtpa in 2017 to 1.3 Mtpa in 2040
• Container export - 404,000 TEU pa in 2050
• Container import - 700,000 TEU pa in 2050
 New Facilities and Infrastructure
• To support the development of new transport infrastructure and logistic facilities.
 Protecting the Port
• To consider the Impacts of urban encroachment.

PON- Port Development Plan
Implementation
Five Goals Key Projects
 Newcastle Container Terminal in Mayfield
 Newcastle Bulk Terminal in Walsh Point
 Automotive and Ro-Ro Hub
 Maritime Precinct in Carrington
 Newcastle Cruise Terminal in Carrington

Five goals will underpin and drive key strategic

development opportunities:
• Promote the port capacity and supply chain to support
economy.
• Utilize the existing road and rail transport assets to
improve freight efficiency.
• Facilitate new trades and supply chains.
• Support the development of new facilities and
enabling infrastructure.
• Protect the Port and Transport corridors from urban
encroachment.
PON- Key Development Plan

PON will review Port Master Plan on five-yearly basis to ensure that the five goals
are relevant and continue to be met, because within the time frame of the plan, it is
recognized that there will be changes in technology, processes and priorities that are
not yet known.
Necessity for Future Yangon Port based on “PON-Port Master Plan 2040”
Necessity for Future Yangon Port based on “PON-Port Master Plan 2040”

By reviewing on “PON-Port master Plan 2040”, the following items

should be considered in the Yangon Port Master Plan.
• To optimized and upgrade existing port capacities and port facilities, if
required to extend or develop new terminals.
• To upgrade and implement the navigation aid and navigation resources
such as pilotage services, tug services, lines services etc.
• To analyze the existing transport networks to become more efficient
transport networks to improve freight efficiency.
• the plan to balance environmental and social impacts (EIA, SIA) of
port operations and port development.
