Results and Findings in Utilization of
Modular Distance learning
Avila (2020) conducted a study titled THE USE OF
FACEBOOK GROUP IN DISTANCE LEARNING DURING
THE TIME OF COVID-19 PANDEMIC to better understand
the effectiveness of using the Facebook Group feature of
Facebook in Distance Learning as an alternative to various
learning management systems especially during the time of the
COVID-19 pandemic. Pre-test post-test control group design
utilizing a quasi-experimental research design was used 96
students studying in a polytechnic university branch in the First
District of Camarines Sur, the Philippines. A researcher-made
test was used to test the academic performance of students. The
results revealed that the use of Facebook Group in virtual
classrooms highly improved the academic performance of
students compared to those that were taught using a
modular approach. Also, the students perceived that the use
of Facebook can be used as supportive tools in learning
during the new normal teaching even though they faced
challenges in using the said platform in learning.
E-learning
Because of the COVID-19 crisis, Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) have resorted to online classes or E-Learning Classrooms to deliver the content of
their curriculum in various platforms. This action research examines the status of the implementation of the ELearning classroom in selected HEI’s in
Region IV-A by conducting a qualitative approach using a survey questionnaire to a small group of professionals who have been teaching various courses in
the tertiary level. This study utilized the descriptive method of research to bring out the current status of the implementation of the e-learning classroom in

the respondents had good experiences in introducing the E-learning classroom as an
immediate response to the country's enhanced quarantine situation. Although all the
E-learning platforms used by the respondents are free of charge, still, students have
encountered problems like lack of resources, difficulty of Wi-Fi connection, and lack of
training among the students and faculty members. this study recommends professional
development workshops for both faculty members and students and preparation of advanced lessons,
slide presentations, and examinations per unit to cope with the prescribed number of hours set by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). It is also
expected that this action research would serve as a future guide for conducting an in-depth study using a structured interview to validate its findings (Chua,
Sibbaluca, Miranda, et. al. on Status of The Implementation of the E-Learning Classroom in Selected Higher Education Institutions in Region Iv-A Amidst
The Covid-19 Crisis, 2020).
Modular distance
learning
Dangle & Sumaoang (2020) conducted a study titled: The Implementation of Modular Distance Learning in the Philippine Secondary
Public Schools. Face to face learning engagement of students and teachers within the school has been suspended due to the COVID-19
pandemic. This pandemic has paved the way to the implementation of Modular Distance Learning as an urgent response to ensure
continuity of education. The Philippines is in the process of adapting to the new normal form of education at present, and continuous
innovations of educators and active involvement of other stakeholders are the driving force for its success. The key purpose of this
research is to find out the challenges encountered, opinions, and recommendations of teachers, parents, and students in the
implementation of Modular Distance Learning in Balbalayang National High School (BNHS) and Baguio City National High School
(BCNHS) during the School Year 2020-2021. These challenges, opinions and recommendations were identified through a mixed
quantitative and qualitative approach by conducting surveys to the 37 participants in the selected schools through quota and purposive
sampling. Deductive thematic analysis was used in the interpretation and coding of data. The main challenges that emerged were
lack of school funding in the production and delivery of modules; students struggle with self-studying, and parents' lack of
knowledge to academically guide their child/children. In conclusion, the study was able to determine the prevailing challenges of the
participants in terms of resources, preparedness, and communication. The result of this study may serve as a springboard for the
future improvements of the schools' existing programs and guidelines on the implementation of modular distance learning.
What is more?
Digital 2020 reports that digital, mobile, and social media have become an indispensable
part of everyday life for people all over the world.
More than 4.5 billion people now use the internet, while social media users have passed the
3.8 billion mark. Nearly 60 percent of the world’s population is already online, and the
latest trends suggest that more than half of the world’s total population will use social media
by the middle of this year.
Some important challenges remain, however, and there’s still work to do to ensure that
everyone around the world has fair and equal access to life-changing digital connectivity.
Asian Perspective (2020) reported
that there are common challenges
in resources and needs, but also
shared aspirations not only to
adapt, but to embrace the new
normal, actively plan for best
practices and a Better Normal,
while being honest and
transparent with problems for
which there are yet no clear or
definitive answers.
