Sum & Product of the Roots of a Quadratic Equation
Without solving the quadratic equation , it is possible to
determine the sum and product of its roots using its coefficients (a, b,
and c).
In general, let be the roots of the quadratic equation , then the
sum of its roots can be determined using the formula:
Product of the roots:
Determine the sum and the product of the roots of
each quadratic equation.
Solutions:
a = 1; b = 5; c = - 6
2.
a = 3; b = 0; c = - 27
a = 3; b = 7; c = 13
4.
a = - 8; b = 6; c = 9
OR:
making the first erm positive
a = 8; b = - 6, c = - 9
5.
a = - 1; b = 9; c = - 9
