THREE MAIN PARTS OF SQUIRREL CAGE

INDUCTION MOTOR
 1.ROTOR
 2.STATOR
 3. ENCLOSURE

 FUNCTIONS
 The rotor and stator do the work.
 The stator is the stationary part of motor’s electromagnetic circuit .
 The stator core is made up thin metal sheets called laminations .
Functions

 Laminations are used to reduced energy losses that would result if a solid
core were used.

 Stator laminations are staked together forming a hollow cylinder.

 Coils of insulated wire are inserted into the slots of the stator core .
OPERATIONS OF SQUIRREL CAGE
INDUCTION MOTOR
 Stator windings are connected directly to the power source. The group of coils
 Together with the steel core is at synchronous speed with the rotating
magnetic field, thus the rotor speed is much smaller. This speed difference is
 Called as Slip.
operations

 Slip is necessary to produce torque

 Slip is dependent on the load.ull

 Motors are designed on SPEED – TORQUE relationship for requirements

applications

 It is often shown on graph called speed –torque curve.

 This curve shows the motors torque as a percentage of load torque over motor
speed range.
Operations

 As the motor picks up speed toque decreases slightly until a point is reached
 Where it increases again. This torque is known a pull –up torque.

 Torque decreases rapidly as speed increases beyond the breaking down

torque.

 A full load torque is develop with motor operating at rated voltage frequency
and load .
