Short history?

-Conceived in late 19th century: Featured fabrication of


objects (wood & metal) using a variety of hand power, or
machine tools.
-(1904) Charles Richard: Manual training
-United States: colloquially known as "shop class"
-Mid-1980s: Became part of curriculum and known as Industrial
arts
Definition of automotive?

Automotive: relating to or concerned w/ motor


vehicles (oxford dictionary)
-Auto: “Self”
-Mobile: “Moving”
Short History of Automotive

• (1769)- Automobile came into life


-Nicholas Joseph Cugnot (Military engineer)
-Invent: “steam vehicle” (First car in the world)
-Purpose: to transport cannons (2.5 MPH)
-Problem: the vehicle was unstable due to poor distribution of steam for
every 15 min that reduce the speed of the vehicle.
• (1801)- Richard Trevithick
-Relocate the boiler and added carriage
-Top speed: 13 Km/H
After a year……. Here comes innovation?
• (1807)- Isaac de Rivaz
-Invented: Internal combustion engine
(mixture of hydrogen & oxygen for fuel)
-Problem: has poor design and need to innovate
• (1862)- Jean Lenoir
- Invented: gasoline (became useful because of Karl Benz)
• (1885)-Karl Benz
-Invented: Motorwagen
• (1903)- Henry Ford
-Founder of Ford motor company; First car (1908), “Ford Model T”
(1908)- Ford Model T; compose: headlights, horns and pedal control
(1910)- Cars made for racing purposes
(1920)- First luxury mobile was released
(for comfort and satisfaction by wealthy citizen)
