- Dias MB, Teves EA. Towards technology with a global heart through compassionate engineering.
Engineering are often taught to be objective and scientific without being affected by
emotions, and the process of creating technology is rarely perceived to be a compassionate
endeavor. However, engineers bring their background, experiences, passion and perspectives
to the engineering process. Moreover, the beneficiaries of engineering work deserve
solutions that have been crafted with compassion and that cater to their specific needs and
Circumstances. Appriorately designed and applied technology can truly transform the lives of
people in many situations especially in undeserved communities such as people in the
developing world and people with disabilities.
- Köhlmann W, Lucke U. Alternative concepts for accessible virtual classrooms for blind users.
The use of virtual classrooms by blind users is hindered e.g. by inaccessible user interfaces, graphical
and dynamical content, as well as synchronous communication. Based on a requirements catalogue for
accessible virtual classrooms and existing concepts to eliminate barriers for blind learners, alternative
concepts are presented for a two-dimensional Braille display. An evaluation using tactile paper
prototyping indicates an improvement towards accessibility and equal usage for all participants
- Mikułowski D, Brzostek-Pawłowska J. Problems encountered in technical education of the blind, and related aids
A new computer remote education technology such as touchscreen mobile devices or graphically
available resources that are usually used to derive an educationof normal students makes a big
barrier for the blind. The barriers to access for blind students to both electronic
educational resources as well as remote services on mathematicsand physics resulting from the
use of other user interfaces for sighted and blind students. Especially important there are
differences in the presentation technologies and ways of editingmathematical formulas and drawings.
In the paper, the proposal of solutions to help blind students to learn and perform basic
mathematical operations with the help of touch screen mobiledevices and the presentation of
mathematical drawings using 3Dprinting technologies are explained. These solutions are part of a
larger research project that purpose is to develop a mobileplatform supporting mathematical and
physical education for the blind by sighted teachers

INTRODUCTION : Braille ASCII is a subset of the ASCII character set which uses 64 of the printable ASCII characters to
represent all possible dot combinations in six-dot Braille.

Objectives
- This project will use six small solenoids/electromagnets arranged in three rows of two columns to operate a Braille dot
matrix.
- Any ASCII character sent to Arduino via COM port will be "translated" in a timed sequence of Braille symbols
WORK PLANS
Zero Review- To figure out the requirements of the project and to start working on it by getting all the
components.
First Review- To show the initial workings of the project and how far you have progressed.
Second Review- To try to complete the project and show the output.

METHODOLOGY
CONCEPT
the purpose of which is to generate a controlled magnetic field through a coil wound into a tightly packed helix. The
coil can be arranged to produce a uniform magnetic field in a volume of space when an electric current is passed
through it. The term solenoid was coined in 1823 by André-Marie Ampère to designate a helical coil.
In engineering, the term may also refer to a variety of transducer devices that convert energy into linear motion.[5] In
simple terms, a solenoid converts electrical energy into mechanical work.
FLOW CHART
EXPECTED OUTCOMES
- To get the symbols coverted through Arduino and feel it through the
solenoids arranged as braille characters
- To be able to feel and read the letters through the vibrations of the
solenoids.

Social impact of my project
- People who are visually impaired would be able to use computers by reading the texts
through solenoids.

Hardware/software
- Using Hardware and software both as software is required to run the code the code through
Arduino and hardware is required to get the output.
