Replacement of Plastic Wastes

as an Aggregate in a Concrete
Mixture
Jacla, Earl Jason L.
De Castro, DC
INTRODUCTION

Using plastic waste in the materials industry is an environmental solution to minimize

the proportion of landfills used in waste incineration.
STATEMENT OF THE
PROBLEM
The study's overall goal is to reduce plastic trash in the environment and use it as

a construction material. It also aims to answer the following questions:

⬣ What are the materials to be mixed with the plastic waste as cohesion in the

concrete mixture?

⬣ What would be the percentage of its flexibility?

⬣ Why is reusing plastic waste as a building material instead of bricks in

buildings more efficient and effective in the long run?

This can help in the discovery that
employing plastic trash in construction
applications can promote environmental
sustainability while also serving as a
reliable source of construction materials.

TO THE
RESEARCHERS
This research will aid them in gaining knowledge
and understanding of how the structure was built
using plastic trash as an aggregate in a concrete
mixture. The research will also lead them to
consider more cost-effective materials, such as
plastic trash when designing a structure.
REVIEW OF RELATED
LITERATURE
According to Patil et al. (2011), Plastic waste disposal is seen as a
major issue because of its limited biodegradability and widespread
usage. People in India have disposed of a big amount of plastic
garbage with a high economic value, and as a result, the recycling
of waste plastics is critical for creating jobs.

garbage and dumps is a serious environmental issue throughout
much of Iran. Many recycling programs exist around the world,
however as plastics are reused, their
strength degrades. it is used to prepare aggregates for concrete
instead of continuously recycling it, it will be a windfall for the
building sector.

According to Hama et al. (2017), plastic trash of the sizes and

contents employed in this work can be used successfully as fine
and coarse aggregates in self-compacting pavement.

According to Awoyera et al. (2020), the utilization of recycled plastic
wastes in cement materials has also been proven to be the most
advantageous because it may replace all materials of the
composite.

According to Hassani et al. (2005), The waste PET employed in this investigation
was in the form of granules with a diameter of about 3 mm, which would replace
05 a portion of the mineral coarse aggregates with a similar volume (2.36-4.75 mm).

According to Hinislioglu et al. (2004), waste HDPE-modified bituminous

binders give superior resistance to permanent deformations because of
their high stability and high Marshall Quotient. This helps with the
06 recirculation of plastic waste and environmental protection at the same
time as well.

According to Vanitha et al. (2015), study examines the use of

recycled waste plastics in M20 concrete in an effort to reduce
07 the amount of coarse aggregate required.

According to Marie et al. (2007), The modern way of

life, along with the growth of technology, has led to
an increase in the amount and type of garbage
08 generated, resulting in a waste disposal
problem. Waste from building sites, such a
shattered glass fibres and concrete, is addressed in
this study.
