The name Jesus is a Greek


translation of the Hebrew
name Joshua which
means “Savior” or
“salvation”.
Jesus is his personal and human name. It is the
name given to Mary by an angel. It means
YAHWEH is my salvation or simply SAVIOR.

He answers a calling

Rabbi means Master. It connotes respect and honor.
He chooses his disciples and commissions them. He
claims to have certainty, authority and power on
what he taught;

practices what he taught; His teachings are unique


(about love, calling God as Abba, use of parables,
coming of the Kingdom of God)
5. Shepherd
A Shepherd is the one who takes care of the
sheep. Jesus is the mediator between God and
man. Jesus leads the sheep to the doorway.
He knows and loves his sheep; by loving his
sheep, he is ready to sacrifice his life for his
sheep.

This is his official title which

function as priest, prophet
and king. This name means
anointed one.

This title appears 40 times in the New
Testament. It is used by Christ to
conceal his divinity and to emphasize
his humanity. He possesses divine
majesty who has the authority to
forgive sins, who is ready to lay down
his life and take it up again.

He is sent by the Father
to save the world not to
condemn it. His
judgment is not based on
appearance but based on

The word Lord implies

Its Greek term kyrios refers to someone who is
a ruler or control of things. To all Jesus Lord
means that He is the supreme owner and master
of our lives.

and Christian faith. He is our strength and source of

In the book of Revelation, Jesus says of
himself, “I am Alpha and Omega, the First
and the Last, the Beginning and the End.”
(Rev 22.13) Alpha is the first letter of the
Greek alphabet, and Omega is the last
one. Putting the two together, they
represent the eternity of Christ as the Son
of God.

Chi - Rho

The Chi-Rho is a combination of the


Greek letter chi (X) and rho (P), which
are the first two letters of the Greek
word for “Christ,” and so when put
together represent “Jesus.”

Ichthus or Fish

Ichthys is the Greek word for fish, and it was


one of the most important early Christian
symbols. Not only did fish feature in several
miracles of Jesus in the Gospels, but the
ichthys was taken as an acrostic for the
Greek phrase “Iēsous Christos Theou Hyios
Sōtēr,” which means “Jesus Christ, Son of
God, Savior.”

Lamb of God

Lamb of God is a title for Jesus that appears in


the Gospel of John. It appears at John 1:29,
where John the Baptist sees Jesus and exclaims,
"Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the
sin of the world."
