are prepared for patients

THE FOLLOWING ABBREVIATIONS ARE COMMONLY
USED BY DOCTORS WHEN THEY PRESCRIBE DRUGS:
b.i.d : twice a day 120/60 : one hundred and twenty over
t.i.d : three times a day sixty
q.i.d : four times a day 20x/m : twenty times per minutes
p.r.n : when necessary (respiration rate)
2 hrly : once every two hours 0.60 : zero point sixty
4 hrly : once every four hours tab : tablets
a.c : before meals/ on an caps : capsules
empty stomach + : add/ plus/ and
p.c : after meals/ after food - : minus/ subtract
p.o : orally (through the X : times/ multiply
mouth) : : divided
3x1 : three times a day = : equal/ same with
3 x 250 mg: three two hundred and BP : Blood Pressure
fifty milligrams TPR : Temperature/ Pulse/
1/5 : one fifth/ one over five Respiration
7/12 : seven twelfth/ seven over MAR : Medication Administration

When you give a dose in tablet form, you must make up the weight on the
prescription from the smallest number of tablets possible.
Example: You must give 1 gram of Sulfasuxidine. The tablets are labeled 250mg.
