 Magnetic Tapes
 Floppy Disc
 CD – ROM
 Blue Ray Technology

Student Name :- Vaibhav Rajaram Pawar

 Magnetic Tape

 Magnetic Tape was introduced by Fritz Pfleumer in

1928, and primary objective of magnetic tap of
using was recording voice.
 It is traditional technology, but now it is replaced by
CD and DVD.
 Magnetic tape is a medium for magnetic recording,
made of a thin, magnetizable coating on a long,
narrow strip of plastic film. ...
 Advantages of Magnetic Tape Media

1) Low Cost

Since magnetic tape does not require power when it is stored, it is a data storage
medium that requires a very low running cost when considering the cost of electricity, the
cost of air conditioners, and equipment costs at a power facility.

2) Secure and Safe

Data loss/leakage accidents due to blackouts, hacking, or theft, etc. occur all around the
world. Magnetic tape, which stores data offline, is a data storage medium that has a lower
risk of these accidents and is also optimal as a measure for BCP.
 Advantages of Magnetic Tape Media

3) Optimal for Long-term Storage

While the life of a hard disk is said to be about several years, magnetic tape has been
proven in an accelerated evaluation test to maintain its performance for over 30 years.

4) High Capacity

Compared to hard disks whose recording density has almost reached the limit, the
recording density of magnetic tape is still increasing, and next-generation technologies
have been demonstrated.
 Floppy Disk

 A floppy disk is a type of storage media that reads data

storage information, also known as a floppy diskette, floppy,
or floppy disk that is used to store electronic data, like a
computer file.
 It was extremely expensive as it was one of the first types of
hardware storage created in 1967 by IBM, which could
read/write a portable device.
 Use of Floppy Disc

 Floppy disks are used for moving information between computers, laptops

or other devices.
 Some early digital cameras, electronic music instruments and older
computer game consoles use floppy disks.
 Floppy disks are inserted in to a floppy disk drive or simply floppy drive
to allow data to be read or stored.
 Advantages of Floppy Disks

 Small.
 Easy to carry.
 Cheap.
 Easy to transport and handle.
 Data on a floppy disk device can be write-
protected from being changed accidentally.
 Floppy disk can be used to transfer data
from one computer to another computer.
 Portable and inexpensive.
 CD- ROM

 CD-ROM, abbreviation of compact disc read-only

memory, type of computer memory in the form of a
compact disc that is read by optical means.
 A CD-ROM drive uses a low-power laser beam to read
digitized (binary) data that has been encoded in the form
of tiny pits on an optical disk. The drive then feeds the data
to a computer for processing.
 Advantages Of CD- ROM

 High-capacity data storage.

 Data security and integrity.
 Stability of the optical medium.
 CD-ROM is an inexpensive way to store large amount of data and
information

Especially compared to magnetic media; the ability to store

digital, audio, and video data, a direct result of storage capacity
and laser technology; and ease of mass production, etc….
 Blue Ray Technology

 Blu-ray represents the third generation of

compact disc (CD) technology, after audio CDs and
digital video discs (DVDs).
 In all three technologies, data is stored on a plastic
disc 120 millimetres (4.75 inches) in diameter.
 The data is encoded in pits that form a spiral track on
the disc.

 Advantages of Blu-ray Disk

1. Capacity

One of the main advantages of Blu-ray is its capacity of storing large amounts of
Informations. A standard Blu-ray disk on average can hold up to 25GB of data, while the dual
layer Blu-ray disk can store up to 50GB of data.

2. Security

For the part of security Blu-ray takes various measures such as High Bandwidth Digital Content
Protection (HDCP), Advanced Access Content System (AACS), BD+ dynamic
cryptology and ROM-Mark Watermarking. This HDCP ensures that no any audio and video
content gets copied and no any unauthorized devices will be able to play them.
 Advantages of Blu-ray Disk

3. Backwards Compatibility

From the suggestions of Blu-ray association, the manufacturers are planning to make Blu-ray
players those are backwards compatible. Backwards compatible in essence means that users will be
able to read and write data on the disk.

4. Manufacturer Support

Currently Blu-ray technology is supported by 13 manufacturers. Some of them
are HP, Philips, Pioneer, Dell and Sony. Sony is including a Blu-ray player with their latest consoles
so that it can increase their sales. Some countries such as Japan is already selling Blu-ray disks and
recorders.
 Disadvantages of Blu-ray Disk

1. Cost
2. Compatibility
3. Durability
4.Availability
5. Updates
