OBJECTIVE

 The main objective was to explore unutilized water bodies and not consume
the ever decreasing land.
 The requirement was of a solar power generating system that would be a
suitable for any water body.
 It has the flexibility of being expanded in any other given environment.
ABSTRACT

 Floating solar power plant is an innovative approach of using photovoltaic

modules on water infrastructures to conserve the land along with increase in
efficiency of the module.
 Addittionally, the water also conserved due to reduction in evaporation of
water from the water body.
INTRODUCTION

 Floating structure: Also known as Pontoon, the floating structure is a sturdy

structure which easily holds the solar panel.
 Mooring system: The floating structure is held securely with a permeant
structure known as mooring.
BLOCK DIAGRAM
WORKING PRINCIPLE
Floating solar, sometimes called floatovoltaics, refers to a solar power
production installation mounted on a structure that floats on a body of water,
typically an artificial basin or a lake.
TWO TYPES OF SYSTEMS

 Two types of systems can be distinguished: FPV or Floating photovoltaic, that

uses photovoltaic panels mounted on the platform, and floating Concentrated
solar power, that uses mirrors that redirect the solar power to a tower.
 Floating PlatformThis is the most crucial component of FSPV; it supports all
necessary components like solar PV during the project time. Hence selection
of appropriate materials for the floating platform becomes imperative. HDPE
is the most popular material being used in a majority of the FSPV power
plants across the globe. Other materials like FRP, medium density
polyethylene (MDPE), and ferro-cement are also been utilized as materials for
the floating platform. Various designs of a floating platform are described
below.
RESULT AND WAVE FORMS

Floating Solar is proud to have successfully completed the installations

of India's first ever floating solar power plant. The overall system is
designed to last few years and generate a Electrical power as per plant
capacity.
 The country's biggest floating solar power plant, by generation capacity, till
date being developed by NTPC in the reservoir of its thermal plant at
Ramagundam in Peddapalli district of Telangana is set to be commissioned by
May-June next. Work on the 100 megawatt plant is in the final stages of
completion. It would be one of the renewable(solar) energy plants being
developedby NTPC with an installed capacity of 447MW in the Southern
Region and the entire capacity would be commissioned by March 2023. Except
for the 230MW ground-mounted solar power plant at Ettayapuram in
Thoothukudi district of Tamil Nadu, the remaining 217MW capacity was being
planned to be commissioned by May-June this year, Regional Executive
Director (South) of NTPC C.V.
HOW FLOATING SOLAR PANELS WORK
HISTORY

 The first floating PV system was built in 2007 in Aichi, Japan. American,
Danish, French, Italian and Japanese nationals were the first to register
patents for floating solar between 2007 and 2014. However, initially, these
small-scale systems were built for research and demonstration purposes. The
first commercial installation was a 175 kWp system built at the Far Niente
Winery in California in 2008 according to the World Bank Report "Where Sun
meets Water". Medium-to-large floating installations (larger than 1 MWp)
began to emerge in 2013, but nowadays they are developed worldwide.
FIRST FLOATING PV SYSTEM
ADVANTAGES

 Floating solar power generating systems typically generate more electricity

than ground-mount and rooftop systems due to the cooling effect of the
water. As the PV system is placed on a water surface, it avoids all the hurdles
of land acquisition and all the concerns of land consumption.. Floating PV
plants can reduce water loss due to evaporation, depending on the surface
covered and climate conditions. Also, CEEW estimates that around 7,000 -
20,000 liters of water per MW are required in the cleaning of a plant. The
cleaning water used in the floating PV system goes into the water body again
which can be reused leading to savings in water and its associated cost.
CONCLUSION

 With the advancement in solar photovoltaic system, the floating solar power
plant plays a vital role. The advantage of the floating system reduction of
evaporation, thus helping preserve water levels during extreme summer.
When panels are installed on floating platform, the heating problem of solar
panel on land is solved to a great extent. This floating technology is long
lasting, cost effective, flexible and less time for installation. The advantages
and technical details of floating solar power plant are presented in this
paper. With this advancement, country like India can meet its power demand
in future.
SCOPE FOR FUTURE WORK

 Covering the water surface

 Installation water filtration pump inside
 Protect the water from dust particles.
