INTRODUCTION

 4G is the fourth generation of mobile phone mobile communication technology

standards.

 It is a successor to the third generation (3G) standards.

 For the typical user, download speeds of initial 4G networks could be around 5-7
times those for existing 3G networks.

SYSTEM KEY COMPONENTS OF
4G
a) System standards
 LTE Advanced
 WiMAX 2

b) Multiplexing and access schemes

 OFDM
 W-OFDM
 MIMO
 MC-CDMA

c) IPV6 Support

13
SYSTEM KEY COMPONENTS OF
4G
System standards
 LTE
•Long Term Evolution (LTE) is a radio platform technology that allowed operators to achieve
even higher peak throughputs than HSPA+

•LTE uses OFDMA on the downlink, to achieve high peak data rates in high spectrum

14
SYSTEM KEY COMPONENTS OF 4G
 LTE Capabilities:

•Operation in both TDD and FDD modes

•Downlink peak data rates up to 326 Mbps with 20 MHz bandwidth

•Uplink peak data rates up to 86.4 Mbps with 20 MHz bandwidth

•Scalable bandwidth up to 20 MHz

•Reduced latency, up to 10 milliseconds (ms) and to less than 100 ms

15
SYSTEM KEY COMPONENTS OF 4G

 WiMAX 2

• First true 4G technology to be approved by the IEEE and ITU

• Supports MIMO, self-organizing network and multicarrier operation.

• Support both 120 Mbps downlink and 60 Mbps uplink speed

• Offering Ultra-wide band

16
SYSTEM KEY COMPONENTS OF 4G
b) Multiplexing and access schemes

 OFDM and W-OFDM

• Use digital multi-carrier modulation method.
• Use fast Fourier transform (FFT).
• Improve spectral efficiency.
• No Inter-Carrier Interference (ICI).

17
SYSTEM KEY COMPONENTS OF 4G
b) Multiplexing and access schemes
 MIMO
• Improve performance.
• Utilize the multiple path propagation.
• Add complexity to the system.

 MC-CDMA
• Share spectrum among multiple simultaneous users.
• Improve BER.

18
SYSTEM KEY COMPONENTS OF 4G

c) IPV6 Support
• Contain 128 bits.

• There is a room for approximately 3.40* unique addresses.

• Needs for security and manageability.

• Voice over internet protocol.
