Introduction
WHAT IS FEMINISM?
Feminism is a social and political movement. Feminism is about changing
the way that people see male and female rights (mainly female), and
campaigning for equal ones. Somebody who follows feminism is called a
feminist. Feminism began in the 18th century with the Enlightenment.

WHAT IS POSTFEMINISM?
The ideology of postfeminism is recognized by its contrast with prevailing
or preceding feminism. Some forms of postfeminism strive towards the next
stage in gender-related progress, and as such is often conceived as in favor
of a society that is no longer defined by rigid gender roles and expressions.
HISTORY OF
FEMINISM
• History of feminism can be divided into three waves. The survey
revealed that the majority 75% of men and women in Urban India
supported women working outside their homes. Elizabeth Cady
Stanton is the first feminist in the world who rallied to the cause of
equality for women.
• The history of feminism in India can be divided into three phases: the
first phase, beginning in the mid-19th century, the second phase, from
1915 and finally, the third phase, began post-independence,
• Savitribai Phule was a Dalit woman and a pioneer of feminism in
India.

SURVEY
• The survey revealed that the majority 75% of men and
women in Urban India supported women working outside
their homes.
• On the other hand, 25% people retaliated and were more
leaned towards women handling housework and other
home chores.
ADVANTAGES OF
FEMINISM
1. Feminism may strengthen human rights
2. Less gender discrimination
3. Gender quotas
4. Better access to education
5. Higher level of freedom
6. Higher wages for women
7. May make leaving an unhappy marriage easier
8. Freedom to vote is encouraged
DISADVANTAGES OF
FEMINISM
1. May lead to excessive advantages of women
2. Feminism may discriminate men
3. Women may be preferred in case of divorce
4. Frustration among men may increase
5. Women may not be accepted in certain positions
6. Men and women are borne with different characteristics
7. Women get a certain attitude
8. Feminists may take it too far
CASE STUDY
• Savitribai Phule (3 January 1831 – 10 March 1897) was an Indian social
reformer, educationalist, and poet from Maharashtra. She is regarded
as the first female teacher of India.
• Phule and her husband founded one of the first Indian girls' school in
Pune, at Bhide Wada in 1848.She worked to abolish the discrimination
and unfair treatment of people based on caste and gender.
• Savitribai Phule fought against injustice against women at a time
when women were subjected to oppression. The first modern Indian
feminists who stood up for the rights of women and fought against
widow shaving their heads.
• Savitribai Phule opened a care centre for pregnant rape victims and
aided deliver their baby. The care centre was called “Balhatya
Pratibandhak Griha”.
• Even after going through so many hardships, she and her husband
stand by their vies and their effects can be seen today.
CONCLUSION
Women have had many great breakthroughs with their protest, but
many still turn a blind eye to the fact that there is sexual discrimination.
Men are still more respected than women in our society. Not only do
they receive higher pay but the products that are marketed toward
them are less than those marketed for women. However, new
generations are taking the movement by storm with even males
supporting women in their fight. The problem of women's rights at
hand is not going away anytime soon, but its growing popularity gives
hope to all those fighting for equality.
