INTRODUCTION

Many college students today work part-time. Employment during school could improve grades if working promotes
aspects that correspond with academic success, such as industriousness or time management skills, or instead reduce
grades by reducing time and energy available for schoolwork. Otherwise, working might be associated with academic
performance, yet not directly influence it, if unobserved student differences influence both labor supply and grades.
Unmotivated students might neither work for pay nor receive good grades because they put little effort into the labor
market or school. Pursuing our own careers has its very complicated paths yet has its own challenging ways. In this
study we will be going to find out some of the pains and joys of each criminology students who are working while
studying. With this we will determine the reasons why some student’s choice to be employed as well as studying and
trying to understand their live experience as a working student. Based to our observation in this institution we might
come up with the conclusion that not all students have enough financial sources and some of ours was giving up on the
track yet some of us choose to be part of the employed society as to believed that they will someday finish their studies.
As the researcher of this study we will be going to appreciate the life of a working students and will spread awareness
regarding to what will be the result of this study.
RESEARCH PROBLEMS

To be begin with this study we make the research problem to start

preliminary step in conducting a research study. This research problem
helps us to understand the research procedure in a better manner and
helps us formulate the sequence. Without a clearly stated and succinctly
written statement of a research problem, a researcher will not know
what research we needs to conduct, in order to find answers, using a
correct research approach to address the problem. To answer our
question directly, the research problems that we think suitable for this
study is the following;
The conceptual framework will conceived to serve as a guide of the study. It illustrates the conceptual

framework that aims to know the lived experiences of a working student, their struggles and hardships and how

they juggle work outside school.

The figure 1 shows the conceptual framework of the live experience of workings students of Data Centre

College of the Philippines which consists the following ;INPUT derive and used as the guided questions of the

study which includes the statement of the problem; Process is The researcher’s conduct an interview and

gathered data by means of interview guide. After which the researchers will be going to compile and interpret the

data; and OUTPUT which aims to assessed the strength and weakness of the working students and will evaluate

the impact of their academic performances despise of being employed.

RESEARCH METHOD

This study utilized an appreciative approach method of qualitative

research. Appreciative approach, is a change methodology that
focuses on elevating and expanding communities’ strengths. Many
participatory action research methodologies tend to start with a focus
on fixing community problems. In contrast, AI begins with the
premise that a community is a center of relatedness and that
extending its strengths invokes a reserve of capacity which, in turn,
reshapes its images such that previously viewed challenges can be
confronted in radically different ways. The four-stage AI process
involves (a) discovering what is good within the system, (b)
envisioning positive images of the future, (c) creating actionable
designs, and (d) reaching design and goal outcomes
POPULATION AND LOCAL

This study will undertake in Data Center College of the Philippines

particularly in College of Criminal Justice Education Department. The
CCJE department specifically twenty (20) students who are working
while studying yet they were trying to achieve their goals to become
police personnel. The DCCP-CCJE office is located beside Partas Bus
Terminal in its north face along Rizal Street, Brgy.1, San Lorenzo,
Laoag City.
SAMPLING PROCEDURES

Purposive sampling technique will be used in this study that

will involve twenty (20) working students of criminology.
These respondents were chose purposely using non-probability
sampling technique to get the desired number of respondents.
The researchers assured that the respondents knows the
struggles and live experience of working while studying.
RESEARCH INSTRUMENT

In this methodology, the researcher will used the interview guide method. As we will survey
the respondents, the questionnaires will served as a tool in accumulating the data and to
gain information needed for the study. The questionnaires was constructed by the
researchers. The research adviser, is the one who will approved and validate the
questionnaires. The researchers will distribute the questionnaires to Criminology students
who are working while studying.
TREATMENT OF DATA

Thematic analysis is a method of analyzing qualitative data. It is usually applied to a set of texts,
such as interview transcripts. The researcher closely examines the data to identify common
themes, topics, ideas and patterns of meaning that come up.

Thematic analysis is performed through the process of coding in six phases to create
established, meaningful patterns. These phases are: familiarization with data, generating initial
codes, searching for themes among codes, reviewing themes, defining and naming themes, and
producing the final report.
