What is a
Closed Circuit
Television (CCTV)?
Closed Circuit Television
(CCTV)?

-is a TV system in which signals are

not publicly distributed but are
monitored, primarily for surveillance
and security purposes.
PARTS OF CCTV SYSTEM

1. CCTV Camera 5. Storage Device

2. Monitor Unit 6. CCTV Power
3. Video Recorder Supply

4. Cables
1. CCTV Camera

CCTV cameras are being

installed at strategic locations
to maximize its view and to
have the system serve its
purpose. There are many
types of CCTV cameras
available for this purpose.
2. Monitor Unit
The function of monitors is to
display video images for
viewing. The selection of
monitors is as important to the
quality of the image as the
selection of cameras, lenses,
and other components in the
system.
3. Video Recorder
Video Recorders receive, manage,
store and record the videos
captured by the cameras. Video
recorders have two types: DVR -
Digital Video Recorder and NVR –
Network Video Recorder. Its
configuration comes in 4, 8, or 16
channels. Each camera is
connected to a channel.
4. Cables

1. Coaxial or 4. Cable Connectors

Ethernet cable
- BNC Connectors
2. VGA Cable - DC Connectors
3. HDMI Cable 5. RJ 45
Coaxial or Ethernet cable
CCTV can be analog, or IP-based. Depending
on that, the cables can be Coaxial cable or
CAT5/CAT6 (RJ45) cables also known as
Ethernet cables.

VGA Cable
Video Graphics Array or widely known as VGA
Cable is a standard type of connection for
video devices such as monitors and projectors.
HDMI Cable
HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is a
cable that provides an interface between any
audio/video source for transferring uncompressed
video data and compressed or uncompressed digital
audio data from an HDMI-compliant source device,
VGA cable HDMI cable.

RJ 45
(Registered Jack - 45) It has an 8-pin modular jack. The jack is
connected to a cable of twisted wire pairs and is the common wiring
used for data networking.
5. Storage Device

Hard Disk Drive or HDD installed inside the

video recorder, is needed to store the
CCTV camera footage. It helps to review
the CCTV footage in the future. Because of
its recording capacity, it is considered the
brain of the CCTV system.
6. CCTV Power Supply
The CCTV power supply will
allow you to power up the
security cameras. CCTV
power supplies are available
in 24VAC or 12VDC power
types, and they are offered
with different ampere
strengths.
