successfully managed through proper diet.
 People living diabetes mellitus are always curious to find
the way out as to manage to their diabetes mellitus.
 Educating patients on proper management of DM is likely
to be effective if we know the characteristics of the
patients in term of their dietary intake and management.
 despite the effort of the dietician at ensuring the
compliance of patients to dietary counseling, many of the
patients still find it difficult to comply and that can result
in further complication and the reason of this is not yet
known.

FINDINGS
 the study reveals that 61% of the respondents in this
study stated that they are never been counseled about
their diet.
 only 39% of the respondents told that they were being
counseled about their diet and only 25% of them have
been eaten their recommended food while 75% has not
been used their recommended food .
 Diabetes mellitus is more prevalent in people above 60
years old so 46% of the respondents were aged above 60
and they are mostly illiterate.
 From this study, we can conclude that respondents have a lack
knowledge of the importance of dietary counseling to their
health.
 And that is due to lack of physician or medical doctor
counseling on lifestyle and dietary for diabetes and poor
understanding of patients to the great importance of factors
influence dietary approach of diabetic patients.
 Group education as well as individual education programmes
should be planned which can lead to better concept of healthy
food consumption among patients.
 Lack of proper knowledge as regards diet requirement for
patients should be addressed by the health teams by giving each
patients individual dietary advice with clear view of its purpose.
RECOMMENDATIONS
 Health care physicians must adequate give dietary
counseling to their diabetic patients.
 Diabetic patients should see their physician regularly and
should check their blood sugar every day.
 Diabetic patients must be educated and well trained for
methods of checking blood sugar and eating habits.
 Government should establish diabetic care canters and
agencies.
 There is need to arrange a large scale awareness
programmers for the general public so that they can be
aware of the existence, management and the implications of
diabetes and communication techniques which could change
the attitude our public in the future.
