When you look at a painting or sculpture, do you wonder what it means? Do you think of how and why it is being
made? How does it make you feel seeing such an artwork?
Arts and crafts are important means of expression. They convey views, ideas and feelings using skills and creative
imagination. They can be found anywhere and play a great part of our lives. Like any other art forms, arts and crafts have
functions. They only differ in levels of functions. Like in painting, some paintings serve as decorative/ aesthetic function and
some paintings maybe spiritual in purpose.
The arts and crafts of South East Asia are heavily influenced by local beliefs, religion, local traditions and cultural
infusion from foreign countries and artistic style. Aside from these, their crafts are also dependent on the local material and its
environment.
