relationships. Interaction is inevitable.

Yet, most of the recent researches of online

interactions focuses on romantic relationships,
strangers or friendships created due to the use of social
media sites.
WEB as a medium of interaction in terms of
promoting and changing the self.
 Online interaction promotes SELF DISCLOSURE; wherein it allows us to
engage in intimacy with one another as an effort to further deepen their
relationship.
 SELF DISCLOSURE: any message about the self that an individual
communicates to one another, or individuals make themselves known to other
people and, others reciprocate by sharing revealing information.
 It is a necessary aspect of relationships because it allows individuals to share
information about them and connect with people on a deeper level.

others. It also relates to self-development and self identity.

self-esteem can be either stable or fluid in nature.
Examples:
* Cyberbullying, bashing and critiques decreases the self-
esteem of a netizen.
* Strengths could also be expressed thrpugh online that
boosts self confidence.
BENEFITS OF ONLINE INTERACTION

 Gives every netizen the sense of freedom and identity, boost up the confidence
level of individuals and easy to find someone who cheers them up during hard
times (Nyagah and Muema, 2015).
 It also helps shy and introvert students, who find it difficult to initiate conversation,
to build social capital as it reduces the level of restrictions involved in
communication and offers a forum to build healthy and strong bonds and
relationships (Steinfield & Lampe).
 On the other hand, according to Hamburger & Vinitzky (2010), argue that many
Introverts build relationships through social networking sites because usually they
find difficulties during face to face dealings.
DISADVANTAGES OF ONLINE INTERACTION
1. It causes depression.
2. Decreases Prosperity
______________________________________________________
As most people do not use SNS for their emotions or moods; they
use Social Networking Sites to overcome their loneliness but only
being less satisfied with their lives.
Chou and Edge (2012) concluded that people who
use SNS frequently have a very firm belief that of other
users, who they don’t know very well offline, and they
are living a very healthy, happy, prosperous life than
themselves. These assumptions about other peoples’
lives cause depression amongst individuals.
 According to Pantic (2014) anxiety, depression, psychotic
disorders and low self-esteem are all likely results of Social
Networking Sites, especially Facebook.
 Facebook has also caused cyber bullying to increase as through
Facebook rumors could be spread easily and indecent pictures of
individuals without their consent could be uploaded. Anxiety,
depression and low self-esteem are all symptoms and results of
cyber bullying (Moreno & Kolb, 2012).
