Course Description

This three-unit course develops the pre-service English teachers’ skills


in applying the principles and approaches in conducting research, an
independent investigation, to find answers to questions concerning
contemporary and relevant issues in language education. The
emphasis is on the evaluative aspects of language research and its
scientific preparation. In addition, it provides them with an avenue to
learn how the critical review of extant literature in the field can aid in
conceptualizing their research topics. Considerably, their content
knowledge on the fundamental aspects of language teaching and
learning shall be bases of a scholarly language research.

Course Outcomes
After completing the course, the student must be able to:
CO1: organize research-based information of an identified pressing issue
and problem in language teaching and learning to arrive at a concept
paper;
CO2:show skills in the positive use of ICT to obtain, to organize, and to
present relevant information into a scholarly language research
proposal; and
CO3:conduct research concerning the teaching and learning of English
language.

Course Policies:
1. Each student shall establish contact with his/her instructor/professor
per course enrolled through messenger/text and email. He/she must be
a member of Messenger Group Chat (GC) account for every course
enrolled and must look for his/her group being coded by this format:
Course Code-Program & Section-USMKCC-Semester-Year (e.g.
EngEd1314-BSE3A/B-USMKCC-S1-2021).
2. Submission of activities can be done personally (if possible, but shall
follow protocols) or through email and (messenger once instructed by
the professor).
3. Scores of activities shall be informed through text or email.

4. For classes requiring no face to face meeting/contact, students’
attendance/participation shall no longer be considered, but with strict
monitoring in recording/updating of students’ activities. Failure to get
frequent contact or response on submission of activities may cause a
student to be dropped/failed from the course.
5. Student must submit activities on or before scheduled deadline. Late
submission shall be subjected to rules and measures established by the
faculty.
6. Repeat submission for enhancement of score of an activity without
advice from instructor/professor is discouraged.

7. Every submission of activity shall be identified using Subject
code format provided by your professor.

Class Policies:
1. GC should only be used for information dissemination and as a
medium for sending activities if the subject professor allowed
you to.
2. Unimportant comments should not be done in the GC. The
professor may delete/block you once comments found to be
derogatory or not supported by VGMO of the university.

3. Once the professor posted the information in GC, reactions
should be on the information itself.

5. Email Address must bear your identify. The professor shall use
email add in recording your exams and quizzes.

6. Set nickname into full name (Family Name, First Name) in the
GC.
7. You may communicate from 6:00 am to 6:00pm unless the
query needs an immediate response. Do not expect that your
professor may reply you beyond office hours. She has also a
family to attend to.
8. Please ask intelligent questions. Questions that can be
answered by the common sense is highly discouraged.
