NATURAL SCIENCE
VIRTUAL LABORATORY
• A virtual laboratory is one where a student interacts with an
experiment or activity which is intrinsically remote from the
student or which has no immediate physical reality.
• Virtual laboratory is a computer based activity where
students interact with an experimental apparatus or other
activity through computer interface.
• Virtual laboratory is an interactive environment for creating
and conducting simulated experiments : a playground for
experimentation.
VIRTUAL LABORATORY
• Virtual labs are fully interactive simulations in which students
perform experiments, collect data and answer questions to asses
their understanding.
• The lab combines animations, illustrations and videos to convey key
information and engage students in the process of science.
• According to Harry and Edward (2005) Virtual labs provide
“laboratory experiment without real lab with its walls and doors. It
enables learner to link between theoretical aspects and practical
one, without papers and pens. It is electronically programmed in
computer in order to simulate the real experiments inside the real
laboratories”.
SALIENT FEATURES OF VIRTUAL
LABORATORY
• Any time Any where lab.
• Virtual labs are less expensive.
• Accessible through internet on any PC/Laptop.
• Surprisingly even on your smartphones/Tablet.
• Developed in self learning mode.
• Innovative experimentations.
• Instant feedbacks.
• Top notch equipments available.
• Data collection and data analysis feature available.
Virtual Lab vs Physical Lab

PHYSICAL LAB VIRTUAL LAB

• Cost typically few lakhs. • Cost usually less expensive than
• Limited in time and space. physical lab.
• Limited options for innovation. • Designed for 24×7 usage.
• Best user experience. • Provides wider and safer options
for innovative experimentations.
• Not the best user experience.
OBJECTIVES OF VIRTUAL
LABORATORY
• To provide remote access to labs in various disciplines of
science and engineering.
• To enthuse students to conduct experiments by arousing
their curiosity.
• To share costly equipments and resources which are
otherwise available to limited number of users due to
constraint in time and geographical barriers.
• To provide a complete learning management system, where
students can learn using additional web resources, video
lectures, animated demonstrations and self evaluation.

cycle by growing their own plants.

VIRTUAL DISSECTION
• Virtual dissection is an interactive computer simulation
modeling the inner animal and human anatomy (these are
not static pictures, movies or animations that do not allow
the user to interact) without a real interaction with genuine
organisms or tissues.
• Every dissection is detailed and offers quizzes after each
section. Students use virtual dissection tools i.e. Scissors or
scalpel. Each system is completely discussed and the correct
order of dissection is ensured.
VIRTUAL DISSECTION
• The tables can be pricey, with costs ranging from $38,000 to
$100,000. Most are in hospitals and medical schools.
