UNIVERSAL ACCESS TO VACCINE AS A FIGHT AGAINST COVID-19

CURRENT SCENARIO OF COVID-19

VACCINE
•India has approved two vaccines, Covisheld and
Covaxin
•Sputnik-V, manufactured and distributed in India by Dr.
Reddy’s Lab, is the third vaccine to receive Emergency
Use Approval in India
• Over 28,87,66,201 have been vaccinated in India
among ages 18-60 and above

AGE GROUP AND SOCIO ECONOMIC STATUS

• The international norm for vaccine approval for
children (below 16 years) states that they can be
given only those vaccines that have been developed
from an inactivated virus. A vaccine developed from a
live virus cannot be given to children.
•Children might respond to the vaccine differently .
Moreover no trials have been done yet
• According to a study, the higher socioeconomic
groups are highly willing to get vaccinated and even
pay for vaccination whereas low socioeconomic group
has been hesitant due to lack of knowledge and
authenticity and side effects issues

FUTURE IMPROVEMENTS
• Avoid myths and misinformation to eliminate
vaccine hesitancy
• Incentives for getting vaccinated especially for low
socioeconomic status
• Eliminate digital gaps to make vaccination
convenient
•Minimize vaccine wastage and mistakes
•Infrastructure and Capacity Building
