Historical source (also known as historical mat
erial or data) is an original source that contains
important historical information. They inform
us about history at the most basic level and are
used as clues in order for us to study.

Historical sources can either be primary or sec


ondary.
Primary Source
• A primary source is an original "first" hand or
"eye-witness" account offering an inside view.

• It contains new information (new at the time it


was evaluated or pharaphrased).

• Such sources are usually created during or ver


y close to the time of the events they report on.

Secondary Sources
• A secondary source provides "second hand" in
formation that has been digested, analyzed, re
worded or interpreted.

the events they report and can put past informa
tion into historical contents.
