BIBLICAL MODEL OF
SELF-DISCOVERY
Omega Semester 2020/2021
Dr. Lanre Amodu
INTRODUCTIONS
You are currently
nothing compared to
who you are created to
be.
You have not scratched
the surface of the
treasure within you
Inside this seed was this tree!!!
Inside this boy was this man!!!
“Man is the
only creature
who refuses
to be what
he is.”
― Albert
Camus
“The greatest and
highest discovery in
life is the discovery
of self.”

David Oyedepo
(Understanding
Divine Direction)
WHAT IS SELF-DISCOVERY?
It is the process of finding out:
1. Who you are created to be.
2. The potentials, gifts and talents you are
created to have.
3. The assignment you are destined to
achieve.
Biblical Model for Self-Discovery
God creates each person for specific purpose
“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the
Lord. “They are plans for good and not for
disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

In those days when you pray, I will listen.

If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find

me. – Jere 29:11-13
HOW TO DISCOVER YOURSELF
1. Ask God who created you.
2. Pay attention to your Passion
David
David had a passion for
his sheep. He would
even risk his life to
protect them. So, God
appointed him as the
Shepherd of His people.
1 Sam. 17: 34 -37
Moses
Moses, through
instincts,

discovered
himself to be
a
deliverer of his
3. Pay Attention to Divine
Signals
Joseph
Joseph saw in his dream
that he was created to be a
leader and he stay through
until his dream came to a
reality. Genesis 37:5-7
3. Pay Attention to the Holy Spirit
“For the Holy Spirit
makes God’s
fatherhood real to us
as he whispers into our
innermost being, “You
are God’s beloved
child!”” – Romans 8:16
(TPT)
4. Find Yourself in the Scripture
Jesus (Hebrew 10:5,7)

“That is why, when Christ came

into the world, he said to God,
“You did not want animal
sacrifices or sin offerings. But
you have given me a body to
offer… Then I said, ‘Look, I
have come to do your will, O
God— as is written about me
in the Scriptures.’”
Self-Discovery is in Phases
What would
they have done
if they knew the
sacrifice that will
lead to their
glory?
If God has destine me for greatness, why do
I have to work hard? I have to:
1. Accept who God made me
2. Grow from who I am to who he made me
to be
3. Learn to manage the greatness when I get
it
4. I have to walk by faith and not by sight
Closing Remarks
• “Self- discovery is the first step to living a
life of impact and fulfilment. Until you
understand who you are and discover
your potentials, you may never live up to
your highest capabilities.” – David
Oyedepo
