ASK YOURSELF WHY YOU ARE GOING TO COLLEGE
 Most Senior high school students do not know what they want to
do when they grow up. But remember, you're choosing a college,
not a major. Selecting the best college is just as much a process of
learning about yourself as it is about prospective schools.
 You may not know what career you want to pursue after
graduation, but you certainly know what your interests are and
what you are good at. Thinking about this will help you figure out if
you are leaning towards liberal arts, social science or a technical
field.
PRIORITY COURSES
4 FACTORS TO CONSIDER
BEFORE CHOOSING A CAREER TO STUDY
7 MOST COMMON CHALLENGES STUDENTS FACE
WHEN DECIDING A COLLEGE
1. Parents' Wish- parents want the best for their children and this is what pressures
students into second-guessing their future career.
2. Passion vs Skill one can be really good in mathematics and accounting but, has zero
passion in accounts management when that seems to be the best bet available. This
can be seen quite frequent among students, you do something with passion but
without skill, or to do something with full on skills but with absolutely no passion?
3. Cost Public or private institutions, they all consume a rather massive lot of money in
your pocket. Some courses like medicine for instance, usually cost up to half a million
or more.
4. Expectations Everyone would expect a star student to sign up for ambitious courses
like engineering, medicine, or law. Family and peer pressure is what influences one’s
decision making especially just to avoid a negative reaction.
7 MOST COMMON CHALLENGES STUDENTS FACE
WHEN DECIDING A COLLEGE

5. Self-Confidence And Self-Esteem Being confident and feeling good about yourself
are very important factors to keep you positive and well-motivated in your life –
education, work and social life
6. Career Opportunity A good career in the future can secure a stable life. We all have
one chance at that one very moment when it comes to determining the path of our
life and everything else we will live for in the future.
7. Competition university life is going to be filled with endless competition from your
fellow students; some may score better in certain fields while you may be better in
others. The honest truth is you are not the only one feeling that pressure, in fact
that course mate that you are feeling competitive about may just be feeling the
same way about you.
SOME OTHER CHALLENGES?

When you’re choosing an area of study, you are ultimately making a career choice.
While some courses can cover several different career paths, you’ll be going down
some ‘specific’ road. So, before you choose that area of study, think about the
possible job that will follow. Even if that career may be a few years away, it should
be your ultimate goal.
 Will it earn you a good salary to help your family?
 Do you truly enjoy the course you have chosen?
 Are you most excited about? You should focus on YOU and your preferences
within that career.
 What do you see as its biggest high points?

CONTRIBUTION TO THE SOCIETY
Through volunteer work, leadership, and philanthropic contributions,

public university graduates enrich the civic and economic life of their
communities.

They also contribute more in taxes and are less reliant on government

services than their peers whose highest degree is a high

school diploma.
