About little Albert
Little Albert is the nickname given by John
Watson to an 11-month-old baby.  Little Albert is not
aware that his story will be immortalized in
psychology books. Watson and his wife, Rosalind
Rayner, intend to instill a particular fear in Albert
through a behavior modification process.  This
research took place in 1920 and is now banned.
The little Albert
experiment
At the beginning of the experiment, when Albert nicknamed 'The Little Albert' was 11 months
old, John Watson placed mice, some animals and objects with fur on the table in front of Albert, he
reacted with curiosity and there was no sign of fear. Watson then makes a loud noise behind Albert
by pounding steel bars with a hammer, pointing out the rat.
As a result, Albert cries in reaction to this noise shown as conditioning.  After a period of
conditioning, Albert returned to crying in response to the fear of the rat without even the
accompaniment of loud noises. When given other animals, Albert also responds with varying
degrees of fear even if not accompanied by loud noises
End of the experiment

Until finally Albert had a personality disorder and a phobia of furry objects and most
animals, especially white rats.  While the researchers rate it as a success.Although Albert the
guinea pig Watson has been traumatized, unfortunately Watson has never once tried to heal
Albert.
In fact, after the experiment was over, Watson left 'The Little Albert' with his psychic scars.
Many agree that this experiment was cruel.
Why Case of little Albert
is Important
The Little Albert Experiment is one of the classic experiments of psychology undertaken by behaviorist John
B. Watson and his student Rosalie Rayner. In John Watson's experiment with little Albert, he demonstrated that
emotional responses could be classically conditioned in humans, this case important because The Little Albert
Experiment demonstrated that classical conditioning could be used to create a phobia. A phobia is an irrational
fear, that is out of proportion to the danger. In this experiment, a previously unafraid baby was conditioned
become afraid of a rat..
Disadvantages & Advantage

Disadvantages
• Albert became very afraid of rats (especially white rats), some animals, and furry objects.
• There is no responsibility from Watson for the experiments he did.
• Watson leaves Albert with his psychic wounds

Advantage
Watson succeeded in proving the classical conditioning theory from this experiment.
