CULTURAL VALUES
o Refers to the core principles and
ideals upon which an entire
community exists and protect and
rely upon for existence and
harmonious relationship.

DAMAYAN SYSTEM

o Denotes a good relationship among the


people in the family or within the group or
community and connotes helping one
another in time of need.

o In case of death of a certain member of the


Community, the whole community
sympathizes with the bereaved family.

BAYANIHAN

o  Filipinos help
one another without expecting
anything in return so that undertaking their
tasks and responsibilities become much
easier. Sometimes this is called “community
spirit.”

FAMILISM/CLOSE FAMILY RELATION
o Filipinos are known for having strong and close
family ties. They place high regard and put
importance on their family before anything else.

o A trait wherein family members should be taken


care and supported regardless of whether he/she
did something wrong, a family member must given
attention and should not be abandoned.

HOSPITALITY
o Filipinos are known for treating all tourists with
respect, regardless of race.

o When a visitor visits their home, there will be a


feast or a huge celebration since it is a tradition for
Filipinos to prepare abundant Filipino cuisine for
guests to sample their culture through food.

o The Filipinos, being hospitable, makes the culture


of the country outstandingly distinct.

WORSHIP

o Refers to a local Filipino tradition and


practice showing love to God and it is
usually done together with family, it is
done whether Roman Catholic or not.

RESILIENCY

o In times of Calamities and Catastrophes,


Filipinos always manage to rise above
the challenge. Instead of wallowing, they
manage to pick themselves up and
smile.

RESPECT TO ELDERS
o A distinct tradition in every Filipino to respect older
people both in words and actions.

o “Pagmamano” is a Filipino gesture often done by


young people to the elders as a sign of respect.
This is done by gently striking the elder's right hand
to the young's forehead.

o Also, addressing elders with “po” at the end of


sentences and answering, “opo” to reply “yes” are
ways on showing respect.

o Courtesy is a Filipino value in socializing, in


which someone has to engage his/herself in
the community to create strong
relationships toward people.
