Learning outcome

Kinds of verbs (basically two most important verbs)

Sentences required to alter/change for


transformation of sentences.
Finite Verb: Verbs which change according to the number
and person of subject
NB: Every sentence must have a finite verb. In other words,
no sentence is constructed without a finite verb. There may
have more than one non-finite verb but finite verb must be
one in simple sentence.
Example: You go to college every day.
Helal does not go to College every day.
Non-finite Verb: Verbs which do not change according to the
number and person of the subject are called non-finite verbs.
Example: You go to College to attend the classes.
Hasan will go to College to attend his classes.
Non-finite verbs are again divided into more three kinds.
These verbs are very important to learn different sentences.

They are: 1. Gerund ( verbal noun)


2. Infinitive ( verbal noun)
3. Participle ( verbal adjective )
Gerund : Structure :- V(1)+ing
Example: Belal is fond of reading.
Walking is a good exercise.
Infinitive: Structures:- to + V(1)
Example: Belal likes to play cricket.
To see means to believe.
Participles( Verbal adjective):
Three kinds 1.Present Participle ( V(1)+ing)
Ex: Helal saw some farmers working in the field.
2. Past Participle ( V(3)
Ex:Belal found some people involved in a fight.
3. Perfect Participle (having +v3)
Ex: Having taken some money,Helal went to market. (
Phrase : A group of words that express a sense
used as a unit within a sentence (no subject and
no verb)

Clause : A group of words that includes a subject


and verb.

Conjunction :A word used to connect clauses,


words or sentences
In transformation of sentences ,we have the following
items of sentences to alter..

1.Interchange of assertive, interrogative , negative , exclamatory

2.Interchange of simple ,complex compound

3.Interchange of positive , comparative, superlative degree

4.Active and passive voice


The following phrases ,clauses and words
required for converting simple, complex and
compound sentences
1. In spite of /despite 2.too……to
3.By +gerund , 4.without+gerund , 5. adverb of
time, manner , place, 6.Adjective.

7.Present,past,perfec participle, 8.infinitive 9.as

10,As well as,11. Either ..or 12.Neither…nor


13.As if
14.As though 15.So that 16.So…that 17,Lest

18.Whom 19.whose,20.when 21. whenever 22. As
