which is shared to others through the use
of social and technology.

THE DIGITAL SELF
The digital self is the persona you use when
you're online. Some people maintain one or
more online identifies that are distinct from their
“real world” selves, others have a single online
self that's more or less the same as the one they
inhabit in the real world.

communication. Individuals communicate online
mainly to remain connected with their existing
friends.

2. Another positive impact of social media is to find


new friends and communities, network with other
people who share similar interests or ambitions. Join
or promote worthwhile causes; raise awareness on
important issues. NEGATIVE EFFECTS
1. The negative effect of social media could be, meanness,
bullying, misunderstanding, unwanted contact and
unintentional disclosure. Online relationships attract more
socially and emotionally vulnerable adolescents.

2. There is a phenomenon called "Facebook Depression" (Van


Pelt, 2008), a situation where individuals become depressed
due to Facebook use or due to being rewards with attention
from close others when they post depressive status updates.
Lastly, Facebook use has been related to jealousy and self
mutilation (Whitbourne, 2017).

social, economic and political life of the societies today
because it has brought so much changes in our daily
