INTRODUCTION
In a modernize period, people from all around the world is expose with the technological
advancement. People in this era are what we called digital literacy, being proficient when
handling any digital platforms. Digital technology has provide a quicker way of communication
through social media platform and instant messaging app. Likewise, Digital Technology like
smartphone, computer and certain gadgets provides people access from media. Therefore,
creating another persona in the virtual world called the digital self. The digital self is form when
the person interact to different area of the media, being influence base from their perception. The
consequence of being too attach of media can lead people to an unauthentic or not genuine and
typically the prefer the fake self rather then the real life. Also people show misconduct and have a
strong narcissistic personality when they are in the media.
ONLINE INDENTITY
- Is what each in every website discern you base on the your desire presentation or information you given them. Therefore, each
website has a different depiction of who you really, This will effect how you see yourself between the online and reality. As long
as you use website, you have an online identity – whether you’re aware of it or not.
- Website let’s the user construct their own identity, some website will ask the user to self-consciously create what their minds
represent most likely the ideal or fake self. In some reason the online self conceal the individual true self, which will confuse
people of what you in the physical world.
SELECTIVE SELF-PRESENTATIVE AND IMPRESSION MANAGEMENT
- is the act of trying to communicate something. About oneself or a representation of oneself to others. It designates a group other
reasons for human conduct. These drives are largely consistent. Inclinations of people, although they are influenced by situational
conditions. Them. In particular, the self-presentational reasons include evaluation in the company of others and by others (even
potential) knowledge of one’s behavior.
SELECTIVE SELF-PRESENTATIVE AND IMPRESSION MANAGEMENT
Self Promotion

- Is intentional behavior that would cause a person of ordinary sensibilities to fear, inquiry or harm.

- Strategy for self-presentation that involves depicting oneself as weak, needy, or dependent so as motivate others to provide
assistance or care.
IMPACT OF ONLINE INTEREACTION ON THE SELF
The development of the persons social aspects can be greatly influence by technology due to an insufficient amount of real life
encounter. Although online encounter are easy and more convenient

1. Dematerialization
- The absence of solid, tangible, material attributes or qualities causes possessions in the digital world to become dematerialized\
- Digital versus physical attachment to goods.
2. Reembodiment
- is the concept of constructing a new self that is not constrained by one's physical body, usually via an avatar..

- The way that people share online is different from the way we share in person.
- The concept of sharing is not a new one, the meaning through is changing.
4. Co-construction of Self
- Physically alone in real world -> virtually social in digital world
- When other people give insight or feedback on an idea or image we’ve posted, they’re helping construct our individual and extended sense of
self which is called the collaborative self
- Comments add digital patina to the photos, ultimately giving it more value
5. Distributed Memory
- From photos, furniture, souvenirs to the digital world
- Always documenting out lives in an effort, Belk claims to improve our memories
- Personal autobiographical memory
- Self, social, directive
- We have thrown so much of are selves on line that Belk believes that artificial intelligence is the next step
BOUNDARIES OF THE SELF ONLINE
Personal boundaries
- Are the set of guidelines, rules or limit that a person to create identify reasonable, safe and permissible ways for person to
behave towards them and how they respond in case someone breaks these rules or overstep the limits.

Setting Boundaries to Online Self


- Stick to safer sites.
- Guard your password.
- Be choosy about the online friends.
- Remember that anything you put online or post on site in there forever, even if you try to delete it.
- Don’t be mean or embarrass other people online
- Limit what you share.
PUBLIC VS PRIVATE
- In many online environment people cannot see others. Nobody can judge the statement and image because of the cloak of
invisibility. In the public mode, the post will be treated as open book. Because of security, many online users are using private
mod. Invisibility is also gauge misrepresent oneself.

PERSONAL/INDIVIDUAL VS SOCIAL INDENTITY ONLINE


Identity
- Is made up of both personal identity and social identity
Social identity
- Is usually based on group affiliation. Like in social media many people identify themselves as member of certain group so that it
will be easy for them to communicate their concern or issues.
GENDER AND SEXUALITY ONLINE
- A special concern is that boys raised in traditional manner are socialized to conceal their emotions. Researchers have found that
problems behaviors often characterize highly masculine adolescents, Gender intensification hypothesis states that psychological and
behavioral differences between boys and girls become greater during early adolescene.
