WHAT IS A PROPOSAL?
o a plan or suggestion, especially a
formal or written one, put forward
for consideration or discussion by
others.

For Example: The President is to

put forward new proposals for
resolving the country's
constitutional crisis.
WHAT IS A PROJECT PROPOSAL?
o It is a document designed to
convince or persuade someone to
follow or accept a specific course
of action, and it is written to
propose;
 Change of process or policy
 Solution to a problem
 Purchase of a product or service
 Pursuit of an activity
 Research (Sims, 2003;
Murcherson, 2013).
Guidelines in Writing Project Poposals

1. Summarize the situation or problem that the

proposal is addressing. If it is unsocilicted, the
proposal must convince the reader that there
really is an important unmet need.

2. Provide a detailed explanation of how the

proposal will correct the problem. (this is the
“project description.”)

8. Provide an honest, itemized estimate of the costs.
Deliberately understanding the timeline or the

the reader to accept the proposal. A convincing cost
benefit analysis is helpful.
CATEGORIES OF PROPOSALS

 is when the customer asks for a proposal.
They may ask verbally or they may issue
a written Request for Proposals (RFP).

 UNSOLICITED PROPOSALS
 is when you send them a proposal they
haven't even asked for because you think

SIGNIFICANCE OF WRITING PROPOSALS

 A proposal is a way to pitch an idea and

state your requirements, so it’s important
for supervisors because they can get
information in writing (not casually in the
elevator), and be able to act knowing the
full implications of their decision.

SIGNIFICANCE OF WRITING PROPOSALS

 They’re also a chance for you to make a

structured, logical argument and lay down
everything in favor of your idea. A well-
written proposal shows your manager you
care about the cause, and it’s not just a
mid-meeting whim you blurted out.
