Course Description
Art appreciation course develops students’ ability to appreciate,
analyze, and critique works of art. Through interdisciplinary and
multimodal approaches, this course equips students with a broad
knowledge of the practical, historical, philosophical, and social relevance
of the arts in order to hone students’ ability to articulate their
understanding of the arts. The course also develops students’
competency in researching and curating art as well as conceptualizing,
mounting and evaluating art productions. The course aims to develop
students’ genuine appreciation for Philippine arts by providing them
opportunities to explore the diversity and richness and their rootedness
in Filipino culture. (Course Credit: 3 units)
Grading System
The class standing components of the mid-term and
final term grades shall be: a) daily quizzes, b)
recitation/participation, and c) projects (term
papers/exercises/other requirements). The daily quizzes
would be in the form of written, oral or performance tests.
The following weights shall be credited for the components of
the class standing rating: 30% for quizzes, 20% for recitation,
and 10% for projects. The term examination weight is 40%.

Netiquette and Virtual Class Rules
1. Use your real name prior to entering your classroom/zoom.
2. Choose a quiet space, free from distractions, to set yourself up for class. Turn off cellphones,
TVs, etc. and exit other applications on your computer prior to entering the classroom.
3. Come to class early with your own created greetings.
4. Dress appropriately. Remember, this is still a classroom setting.
5. Use your full name when you sign into the classroom.
6. When you enter the classroom, make sure to enable both audio and video.
7. Mute your microphone during the lesson to avoid disturbing the class with any background
noise.
8. Be respectful.
9. Participate and be graded. When you have a question or comment, use the “Raise your Hand”
button that can be found in the window that pops up when you click on participants in the
bottom menu. Wait to be acknowledge by the teacher before unmuting yourself to speak.
10. Use the chat responsibly. Do not use it for sideline discussions.
11. When your class is over, leave the classroom by closing the window.
Course Learning Outcomes
Within the course, the students are expected to:
1. Explain the importance of studying art appreciation to human
improvement;
2. Classify arts, its elements, and principles of design;
3. Analyze and appraise works of art based on aesthetic value,
historical context, tradition, and social relevance;
4. Appreciate one’s uniqueness in their group performances;
and
5. Create their own works of art and curate their own production
and exhibit.

Task No. 1
Directions:
1. Make an artistic bookmark that depicts the vision-mission statement of the
University and include the University logo. The statements should appear in
front of the bookmark. You can express more on your creativity at the back part.
2. Utilize available materials at home and your computer skills.
3. Take a photo of your output with you holding the bookmark and a book.
4. Put a callout beside your picture. Write about your expectation of the
course/subject.
5. Submit your task in the google classroom. Enjoy!
