and the eternal life in Paradise or Hell is one of the articles of faith. Following verse describes this fact as: ًضالَال ِ َو َمن يَ ْكفُرْ بِاهَّلل ِ َو َمالَئِ َكتِ ِه َو ُكتُبِ ِه َو ُر ُسلِ ِه َو ْاليَ ْو ِم َ اآلخ ِر فَقَ ْد َ ض َّل بَ ِعي ًدا ‘Anyone who denies Allah, His angels, His books, His messenger and the Day of judgement has gone far, far astray’ (4:136) This belief is able to shape a Muslim’s life according to the wishes of Allah and His prescribed path. For this reason the Quran frequently mentions Tawheed with the Hereafter. Quran challenges those who deny the Hereafter by saying: َ ُون بِاهَّلل ِ َو ُكنتُ ْم أَ ْم َواتا ً فَأَحْ يَا ُك ْم ثُ َّم يُ ِميتُ ُك ْم ثُ َّم يُحْ يِي ُك ْم ثُ َّم إِلَ ْي ِه تُرْ َجع ُون َ ْف تَ ْكفُر َ َكي ‘How can you reject the faith in Allah…….seeing that you were without life and He gave you life: then He will cause you to die, and will again bring you to life: and again to Him will you return’ (2:28) FIRST BLOW OF TRUMPET On the day of judgement, the entire universe with all forms of life will be brought to its end by the creator. Day of judgement will start by the first blow of Trumpet by the angel Israfeel. The Quran says ًت األَرْ ضُ َو ْال ِجبَا ُل فَ ُد َّكتَا َد َّكةً َوا ِح َدة ِ َاح َدةٌ َو ُح ِملِ ور نَ ْف َخةٌ َو ِ ُّفَإ ِ َذا نُفِ َخ فِي الص ُت ْال َواقِ َعة ِ فَيَ ْو َمئِ ٍذ َوقَ َع ‘Then when one blast is sounded on the Trumpet and the earth is moved and the mountains are crushed to powder at one stroke. On that Day shall the Great event come to pass’ (69:13-14) SECOND BLOW OF TRUMPET Then the second trumpet will be blown and all the dead will be resurrected as mentioned in the Quran: شهي ٌد ٍ اءت ُكلُّ نَ ْف ٌ ِس َّم َعهَا َسائ ِ َ ق َو ْ َو َج ‘And there will come forth every soul; with each will be an angel to drive and an angel to bear witness’ (50:21) ACCOUNTABILITY OF DEEDS All humans will stand before Allah for accountability of their deeds in the worldly life. Allah will set the scale of ultimate justice and the body organs of every individual will speak and witness to tell the details of deeds. ُفَ َمن يَ ْع َملْ ِم ْثقَا َل َذ َّر ٍة َخ ْي ًرا يَ َرهُ َو َمن يَ ْع َملْ ِم ْثقَا َل َذ َّر ٍة َش ًّرا يَ َره ‘Then anyone who has done an atom’s weight of good, shall see it, and anyone who has done an atom’s weight of evil, shall see it’ (99:7-8) REWARD Finally, according to the deeds people will be awarded forever and ever. The Quran promises eternal dwelling place as a reward in paradise for the pious and the righteous. ات َع ْد ٍن يَ ْد ُخلُونَهَا ُ ََّجن ‘Gardens of eternity will they enter’ (35:33) Another verse states: ِ ازينُهُ فَه َُو فِي ِعي َش ٍة ر َّاضيَ ٍة ِ ت َم َوْ َفَأ َ َّما َمن ثَقُل ‘Then he whose balance of good deeds will be heavy, will be in a life of good pleasure and satisfaction’ (101:6-7) The evildoers and the sinners, on the other hand will be given horrible punishment َ َو َما أَ ْد َرا.ٌاويَة ٌ نَا ٌر َحا ِميَة.ك َما ِهيَ ْه ُ ْ ََّوأَ َّما َم ْن َخف ِ َ فَأ ُّمهُ ه.ُازينُهِ ت َم َو ‘But he whose balance of good deeds will be light, will live in a bottom less pit….it is a fire blowing fiercely’ (101:8-11) IMPACT OF THIS BELEIF These Quranic descriptions are aimed at implanting a true fear of Allah (in the hearts of the Muslims) who is not only ‘Most Merciful’ but also is the ‘Master of the Day of judgement’, if we have developed such faith then we will try to be pious, disciplined caring and compassionate with a strong belief that Allah will give us reward of even the smallest deed. An unshaken faith in the hereafter enables a believer to bear hardships in this world and to remain steadfast.
