WHAT IS ADVERB ?

An adverb is a word or an expression that modifies


a verb, adjective, another adverb, determiner,
clause, preposition or sentence.
ADVERB FUNCTIONS
 Funcation of adverbs is to act as modifiers of verbs or verb
phrases. An adverb used in this way may provide information
about the manner, place, time, frequency, certainty or other
circumstances of the activity denoted by the verb or verb
phrase.

Adverb (kata keterangan) disini adalah here.


Kata keterangan disini memodifikasi frase kata kerja leave
(tinggalkan) menunjukkan tempat.

 Adverb of frequency

Adverb of Manner
 What are adverb of manner ?
 Adverb of manner tell us how someone does something or
how something happens. They usually come after the main
verb :
 he drank quickly (setelah kata kerja)
 he drank the water quickly (setelah objek)
 he drunk quickly the water (bukan antara kata kerja dan
objek)
Most adverbs of manner end in-ly. Exceptions include well,
hard, late and fast.
Adverb of Frequency
 What are adverb of frequency ?
 An adverb of frequency describes how often an action
happens. There are six main adverbs of frequency that we use
in english : always, usually (or normally), often, sometimes,
rarely and never.

Example :
• Sara always goes out on Saturday evenings.
• Jane’s boyfriend usually picks her up and they
drive into the city centre.
Adverbs of Time
 What is an adverb of time ?
 These adverbs states the time of occurrence of the action. It
may give sharp or rough idea about the time of occurrence of
an action.
 E.g. Soon,late, today, tomorrow, now, etc.

Examples :
• He will go to school tomorrow
• Please call him now
Adverb of Place
 These adverb express the place of the occurrence of an action
ar regarding an action.
 E.g here, there, near, outside, inside, etc.

Examples :
• They were coming here.
• Some is talking outside.
