What is Lexical
Categories?
Lexical Categories

A lexical category is a syntactic category for elements


that are part of the lexicon of a language .These
elements are at the word level.
1.Noun
The least difficult meaning of a noun is a thing and things are the
essentials structure squares of sentences.These things can speak to
an individual,creature,place,thought.
Example
The Boy and Girl were holding hands as they
crossed the bridge to on the way to town.
Verb
Verbs are the action words in a sentence that describe what the subject is
doing.Along with nouns ,verbs are the main part of a sentence or phrase.
Example
Faizah eats her dinner quickly.

We went to the market.


Adjective

Refers to a words that depict or adjust different words,making your


composition and talking considerably more explicit and a ton
additionally Fascinating
Example
They Live in Big,Beautiful house.
Adverb

Refers to word that is utilized to change,alter or quality s few kinds of


words including a modifier, an action word, a proviso, another verb
modifier, or some other sort of word or expression.
Example

He swims well
He ran quickly
Grammatical
Categories
Grammatical Categories

A grammatical category is a class of units (such as noun and


verb) or features (such as number and case) that share a
common set of characteristics. They are the building blocks
of language, allowing us to communicate with one another.
Determiners

It introduce a noun in a sentence, it comes before any other


adjectives used to describe the noun. Mostly determiners are
to refer singular nouns if it is optional when refer plural.
Example:
A newly-wed couple has arrived to the reception.
Auxiliaries
It helps the main verb and is also called as a helping verb
with this auxiliary verbs, you can write sentences in a variety
tenses moods, or voices for example the auxiliary verbs are
be,do,have,will,should,can and so on
Example:
Jerry caught his thumb in the car door as coffee spilled
from his cup onto his favorite shirt.
Pronoun
Defined as a word that functions as a noun phrase used by
itself and that refers either to participants in the discourse.

Example
The Bride started staring at herself in the mirror.
Conjunction
A word which is used to connect clauses or sentences or to
coordinate words in the same clause.The relationship
between two or more events or things occuring at the same
point in time or space.

Example
She didn’t speak to anyone,and nobody spoke for her.
A subject and A Predicate

The subject refer to what whom the


sentences is about while the predicate
tells something about the subject.
Ex. Anna loves to watch television every
afternoon
Direct object and Indirect Object
Direct objects are words, phrases and clauses that follow a
transitive verb and receive the action of the verb.while the
indirect object are defined as words,phrases and clauses that
follow a distransitive verb and point out to or for whom or
what the action of the verb is formed

Ex. I bought a cake for my mother.
